Appearance
Lean and quick-eyed, with a narrow face, pale green eyes, and dark hair braided back to keep it out of the way. Wears dark, well-worn leathers patched more than once, along with soft boots and fingerless gloves that never seem to scuff the floor. Keeps close to walls and doorframes, one hand habitually resting near a hidden blade, the other near a pouch of lockpicks and tiny tools. Their movements are precise and economical, like someone who learned early that being noticed was often the first mistake.
Mannerisms
Speaks in short, measured sentences and tends to answer questions after a brief pause, as if weighing every word against the nearest exits. Watches hands more than faces, and when thinking, taps one finger against the side of a wrist like counting invisible locks. Rarely sits with their back to a door.
Personality
Sharp, observant, and almost painfully economical with trust. Sylren listens before speaking, notices what others miss, and prefers to solve problems with patience and timing rather than noise. Once someone earns their loyalty, Sylren is steady, protective, and almost fiercely practical, the kind of companion who will quietly shoulder the dangerous task so others can keep breathing.
Ideals
Freedom. No one should be owned by hunger, debt, or the cruelty of the powerful. Sylren believes people deserve a chance to choose a different path, especially those the law has already written off.
Bonds
They still keep a tiny brass crow charm taken from the first safe house that ever felt like home, and they would cross a kingdom to protect the few people who showed them mercy after the fall of their gang. Sylren also hopes to one day buy back the debt ledger that names every victim of their old crew, so they can repay what can be repaid and burn the rest.
Flaws
Sylren trusts too slowly and judges motives too quickly, sometimes seeing a con where only kindness was offered. They cannot resist testing locks, pockets, and secrets that seem too easy, and that habit has gotten them into more trouble than any guard ever did. When cornered by authority, they become stubbornly defiant, even when retreat would be wiser.
Quirks
Background
Sylren was raised in a river-market district where honest work was never plentiful and hungry children learned quickly that locks, purses, and alley shadows were part of survival. Before they could read a ledger, they could read a crowd, spotting which noble had overfilled pockets, which guard was bored, and which mark would miss their coin by the time they reached the next stall. A small thieves' ring taught Sylren how to move quietly, how to cut a strap without a sound, and how to disappear into a crowd so completely that even friends sometimes lost sight of them. That life ended in a bad season, with a betrayal that left half the ring jailed and the other half scattered. Sylren escaped by inches and spent months sleeping in tree hollows, canal tunnels, and abandoned lofts, relying on instinct, speed, and a growing disgust for the people who treated the desperate like livestock. The woods became their refuge and, slowly, their conscience. Now they travel with adventurers because the road offers something the city never did, a chance to choose who they become. Still, old habits cling to them, and when trouble appears, Sylren's first answer is usually a quiet step into the dark and a hand already on the blade.
