Appearance
Hayden is a lean, long-limbed male elf with ash-brown hair worn in a short, uneven braid behind one ear. He dresses in dark green studded leather beneath a weather-faded traveling coat, with a recurved longbow kept within easy reach. Within a minute of meeting him, most people notice that his eyes rarely settle on the speaker. They travel instead to windows, exits, rooftops, hands, and unattended valuables, as though every room is a puzzle he is solving. He takes up very little space when standing, often leaning against a wall or folding himself into a corner, but he becomes startlingly still when danger appears.
Mannerisms
Hayden checks every door and window when entering a room, taps twice against his bow before a difficult shot, and answers direct questions with a brief glance toward the nearest exit before speaking. When thinking, he silently counts objects in his surroundings.
Personality
Hayden is observant, dryly humorous, and protective without being openly sentimental. He prefers practical kindness to speeches, leaves food where hungry people will find it, and treats criminals with more patience than nobles. He is comfortable in silence and distrusts anyone who speaks too confidently about order, destiny, or the law.
Ideals
Freedom. No law deserves obedience merely because it is written down. People should be judged by whom they protect, not by which institutions approve of them.
Bonds
He carries a small iron key taken from the magistrate whose crimes first drove him into exile. It opens a locked archive containing evidence that could clear the names of his former crew, one of whom is still imprisoned under a false identity.
Flaws
He assumes every favor has a hidden price and every authority is one bad day away from becoming a tyrant. Hayden will risk an entire mission to protect someone who reminds him of his former crew, even when doing so is reckless.
Quirks
Background
Hayden grew up in a wood elf settlement built along an old trade road, where his people quietly watched caravans, smugglers, soldiers, and fugitives pass beneath the trees. He learned early that the law and justice were not the same thing. When a corrupt magistrate began seizing elven land under invented charges, Hayden joined a small burglary ring that stole the magistrate's ledgers and returned confiscated goods to the families who had lost them. The operation succeeded, but the ring was betrayed from within, forcing Hayden into the wilderness with a price on his head. Years spent moving between forest trails, city rooftops, and hidden safehouses turned him into a skilled ranger and an unwilling guardian of people who had nowhere else to turn. He still maintains a network of thieves, informants, ferrymen, and innkeepers, though he now uses those connections to expose tyrants, disrupt monster cults, and protect the vulnerable. Hayden considers every hunt a debt repaid to the people his first crew could not save. He is suspicious of institutions, fond of outcasts, and quietly determined to prove that a criminal past does not dictate a person's future.
