Appearance
Amunet Goldeneyes is a completely human-looking woman with copper skin, black hair, and striking golden eyes that preserve the unmistakable legacy of her tiefling mother. She stands with one hip slightly forward and keeps her weight on the balls of her feet, as if every quiet moment might become an ambush or an escape. Her sleeveless V-neck vest leaves her arms visible, where golden upper-arm ornaments sit above carefully maintained bracers of archery. She wears loose, practical bloomers, polished boots of elvenkind, ornate earrings, and a desert veil that can cover her mouth against sand and danger. Her most meticulously cared-for possession is the Crown of Crystals, an Egyptian-inspired gold relic shaped like divine wings, with symmetrical blue gemstone strands hanging from its lower edge. A shortbow and efficient quiver ride across her back, while a flame tongue scimitar, a venomous ornate dagger, and a second scimitar hang from her belt. Babi, her lethal female hippopotamus companion, follows her with surprising discipline.
Mannerisms
When waiting, Amunet balances lightly on the balls of her feet and rests two fingers against the nearest piece of jewelry, usually one of the Crown's blue gemstones. She unconsciously traces inscriptions with her thumb while thinking. In conversation she pauses to correct inaccurate dates, then apologizes with complete sincerity. Before entering a ruin, she whispers its name to the sand. When angry, she becomes quieter rather than louder.
Personality
Amunet is observant, composed, and scholarly, with the patient courtesy of a museum curator and the alertness of a practiced infiltrator. She treats servants, guides, animals, and junior scholars with genuine respect. Around ancient ruins she becomes animated and intensely focused, speaking rapidly as she connects symbols and historical clues. Her compassion is deliberate, but so is her violence. Once she decides that someone is endangering innocent people or profaning the dead, she pursues them with chilling efficiency.
Ideals
Knowledge belongs to the living. The dead left their history for the future, so no tyrant, tomb robber, or collector has the right to hoard it. I will recover what was lost and return sacred history to the people who inherited it.
Bonds
The stolen Anubian cylinder is the last physical memory of her parents, and Amunet will cross any desert, tomb, or kingdom to recover it. She is also bound to Al'Kirat's museum and considers its collections a sacred trust rather than private property.
Flaws
She cannot leave a stolen relic, damaged inscription, or unanswered historical contradiction alone, even when doing so would be safer. Amunet can become cold and frighteningly ruthless when enemies threaten her museum, her companions, or anything connected to her parents. She also assumes that every powerful institution is hiding a second motive.
Quirks
Background
Amunet was orphaned in Al'Kirat after her human father and tiefling mother crossed into the red sands of the Kirat Desert in search of the mythical sunken city of Anan'Thul. They never returned. The curator of Al'Kirat's museum took the child in as a pupil, teaching her the languages, dynasties, funerary customs, and sacred symbolism of the ancient Anubian civilization. Amunet became a meticulous scribe and a respected historian, able to reconstruct a vanished dynasty from a cracked inscription or identify a forgery by the pressure of a single carved line. Her life changed when the last keepsake of her parents, an Anubian cylinder said to bear a map or invocation connected to Anan'Thul, was stolen from the museum. The theft exposed a truth Amunet had tried to avoid. Knowledge alone would not recover what had been taken. She learned to move through locked archives, read the habits of guards, cross rooftops, and strike before danger could reach her. Her scholarship became the foundation of her roguecraft, and every expedition became both an archaeological investigation and a hunt for the person who stole her family memory. The Crown of Crystals came to her during one such expedition. Its blue gemstones glow with celestial patterns, and its divine magic allows her to speak with every beast she encounters. Babi, a massive and terrifying hippopotamus, has been her companion ever since. Amunet is kind to the innocent, patient with students, and utterly merciless toward those who exploit history, desecrate sacred places, or prey upon the helpless.
