Appearance
Naraseth is a lean, copper-scaled yuan-ti pureblood with narrow amber eyes, a blunt humanlike nose, and fine scales gathered along his temples, throat, and wrists. His dark hair is cropped close except for a thin braid behind his left ear, threaded with a brass ring taken from his first ship. He dresses in salt-stained leather armor beneath a weatherproof navy coat, keeps a shortbow wrapped in oiled sailcloth, and wears a captain's cord braided from red and gray rigging line. His movements are economical and nearly silent, even on a rolling deck.
Mannerisms
Naraseth pauses before answering difficult questions, as though listening to wind through rigging. He checks exits whenever he enters a room, taps twice against wood before giving an order, and addresses people by their full names when he is angry. When thinking, he rubs the brass ring in his braid between two fingers.
Personality
Naraseth is watchful, dryly humorous, and difficult to surprise. He speaks in the clipped language of a deck officer, preferring clear instructions to dramatic speeches. Beneath his controlled manner is a fierce concern for the people under his command. He notices small discomforts, missing supplies, tired eyes, and unspoken fear, then quietly adjusts the ship or the plan to compensate.
Ideals
A ship survives because every person does their duty. Loyalty is not a feeling, it is what remains after fear, hunger, and uncertainty have taken everything else.
Bonds
The Bloodscale Omen is his ship, his crew, and the closest thing he has to a family. He will risk his life to recover any crewmate left behind, especially Selise, whose safety he entrusted to another.
Flaws
He confuses emotional distance with discipline and will make a cold, practical decision before giving anyone a chance to tell him what they need. He also keeps private tallies of every mistake, then becomes defensive when others notice how much he fears making another.
Quirks
Background
Naraseth V'Hume was raised among dock crews who valued a steady hand more than a clean lineage. His yuan-ti blood made strangers wary, but ships had their own logic. A sailor who could read a current, find a knot in the dark, and put an arrow through a lantern hook from the far end of an alley was useful. Naraseth learned early that a vessel was not merely wood and canvas. It was a promise made between people who might have to trust one another when the sea turned black. He began as a lookout, then became a spotter, infiltrator, and quiet problem solver for crews that could not afford loud mistakes. The Bloodscale Omen gave him more than employment. It gave him a place where his instincts were treated as seamanship rather than suspicion. As captain, Naraseth keeps the crew alive through preparation, strict watch rotations, and a habit of knowing exactly where everyone is before trouble begins. During the Alleyway ambush, he stayed hidden above the street beneath a collapsed awning, providing lethal sniper support while the others drew the attackers into his field of fire. Later, when the crew went after the sky iron, he chose to leave Selise aboard under Kara's watch. He called it sound command judgment, though he still wakes remembering the look Selise gave him when he made the decision. Naraseth tells himself that a captain must choose the whole ship over any single passenger. He is not always convinced he believes it.
