Appearance
Nomi is a slight, soft-featured human with warm olive skin, dark brown hair cut just below the jaw, and calm hazel eyes. They dress in practical charcoal and faded rust clothing beneath a well-maintained leather jerkin. Their most noticeable feature is their posture: when waiting, they balance lightly on the balls of their feet with one heel lifted, as if already deciding which direction to move. In a crowded room, they take up remarkably little space, turning sideways to let others pass without being asked. Their hands are broad-palmed and careful, with ink stains along the fingertips from copying keys, ledgers, and names.
Mannerisms
Nomi stands with one heel raised whenever they are waiting. They angle their body toward exits, count door hinges under their breath, and answer direct questions after a brief glance at the speaker's hands. When nervous, they smooth the same nonexistent wrinkle from their sleeve.
Personality
Quiet, observant, and unfailingly practical, Nomi speaks gently even while delivering an insult. They dislike grand speeches and prefer useful questions, clear exits, and agreements that can survive being read aloud. Around strangers they seem almost absent, but they remember every object moved and every promise made.
Ideals
Balance. No law is sacred merely because it is written, and no rebellion is noble merely because it is loud. Nomi judges actions by the harm they prevent and the harm they cause.
Bonds
A hidden registry contains the names of people Nomi helped free, and they will risk almost anything to keep those names from being recovered.
Flaws
Nomi assumes every kindness has a price, and when no price is offered, they become certain the cost will be collected later. They also have a habit of abandoning a sensible plan the moment someone innocent is placed in danger.
Quirks
Background
Nomi grew up in a riverside district where every family knew which doors opened after midnight and which shopkeepers accepted questions instead of coin. Their parents repaired luggage and travel cases, but Nomi learned early that the lock was often worth more than the bag. They began as a runner for smugglers, carrying messages through markets and canal tunnels, then graduated to opening windows, replacing seals, and quietly removing documents from offices whose owners believed paper could not betray them. A failed burglary changed the shape of their life. Nomi was hired to steal a registry from a magistrate, only to discover that the book contained the names of debtors being sold into forced labor. They took the registry, destroyed the payment records, and left the magistrate with a neat stack of blank pages. The criminal network that employed them considered this an expensive act of disloyalty, and Nomi has been moving carefully ever since. They still steal when necessary, but now they choose targets by a private arithmetic of harm, profit, and who will be left standing when the alarm bells stop.
