Appearance
Stars on the River is a lean male tabaxi with dark grey fur, sharp yellow-green eyes, and a triangular notch missing from his left ear. Three small metal hoops pierce his right ear. He usually goes shirtless beneath a loose leather vest, wearing loose-fitting pants, old leather boots, and a bandolier of well-balanced daggers. His expression is almost always sly, as though he knows a joke that everyone else missed.
Mannerisms
He rolls a dagger across his knuckles when bored, flicks his notched ear when irritated, and grins wider whenever a situation becomes dangerous. He rarely sits with his back to a wall unless he is deliberately trying to look unconcerned.
Personality
Stars is cocky, restless, and deliberately abrasive. He needles authority figures, talks to his daggers as if they are old friends, and treats every conversation like a contest he intends to win. Beneath the punk attitude is a wary, observant survivor who notices exits, hidden hands, and changes in tone before most people notice the conversation has turned dangerous.
Ideals
Freedom. No master, monastery, gang, noble, or god gets to decide what he does with his life.
Bonds
He carries the stolen ledger of the criminal ring that betrayed his closest friend. He intends to expose its leaders, though he refuses to admit how much he still wants their respect.
Flaws
He mistakes defiance for strength and would rather make a bad situation worse than let someone think they intimidated him. He is quick to betray a plan, a promise, or a superior if he believes they deserve it, but he is painfully sensitive to any suggestion that he is actually afraid.
Quirks
Background
Stars on the River was born in a riverside den beneath a moonless sky. His mother named him for the trembling stars reflected on the black water, a sight she said made even hard lives seem beautiful. Stars never shared her patience for beauty. He grew up quick, sharp-tongued, and constantly ready to prove that no claw, blade, or authority could put him in his place. The triangular piece missing from his left ear came from a dockside brawl with a smuggler twice his size, a fight Stars technically lost and has retold as a victory ever since. His talent for slipping through crowds and striking before anyone could react brought him into the orbit of a criminal ring that used him as a courier, lookout, and occasional enforcer. He learned to fight with empty hands from an aging monastery-trained street fighter, then refined those lessons into a fast, dirty style built around feints, footwork, and daggers. When the ring betrayed one of his closest friends to save its own skin, Stars stole their ledger and disappeared into the wider world. Now he works as a thief, scout, and wandering troublemaker, claiming he wants freedom above all else. In truth, he is still hunting the people who taught him that loyalty is just another word for leverage.
