Appearance
Sarsus is a tall, lean air genasi with pale blue-gray skin, silver-white hair that constantly lifts as if touched by an unseen breeze, and eyes like storm clouds lit from within. Thin currents of air stir around his clothing when he is agitated. He moves with measured precision, rarely wasting a step, but his hands are constantly occupied with arranging papers, tracing invisible diagrams, or turning a brass signet ring. His fingertips are darkened with ink and powdered chalk from years of annotation and ritual work. He wears layered scholar's robes beneath a fitted leather coat, with copper thread sewn into the cuffs as conduits for eldritch power.
Mannerisms
Sarsus pauses before answering even simple questions, as though checking the wording against an internal index. He straightens crooked objects without noticing, writes tiny marginal notes during conversations, and speaks more quickly whenever he is discussing planar theory. When using magic, he exhales slowly and lets the surrounding air carry his words.
Personality
Sarsus is exacting, observant, and intensely self-controlled. He prefers written evidence to intuition and considers impulsiveness a form of poor scholarship. Beneath his reserved manner is a fierce curiosity and a quiet loyalty to people who respect his boundaries. He does not seek authority for its own sake, but he believes rules are valuable because they make power predictable.
Ideals
Order. The world is survivable when every force has a name, every bargain has terms, and every mystery can be reduced to a sequence of verifiable facts.
Bonds
He carries a weather-stained page from Veyr's central archive and will risk much to find a way home. He is also bound by the exact wording of his pact, which he treats as both a weapon and a chain.
Flaws
He treats every promise as a binding legal instrument, including casual remarks made by friends. When evidence contradicts his theory, he becomes stubbornly procedural rather than admitting uncertainty. He is also dangerously willing to accept a new bargain if it promises a clear route home.
Quirks
Background
Sarsus Guyania was transplanted from the wind-carved archive-city of Veyr, a place where knowledge was stored in hanging libraries suspended above endless chasms. As an air genasi, he was expected to become a courier, scout, or weather-reader, but Sarsus preferred the quiet certainty of written records. He became an assistant to a historian who studied planar crossings, copying damaged manuscripts and reconstructing lost routes from fragments of maps, travelers' accounts, and half-legible magical formulae. His life changed when a sealed folio arrived from beyond Veyr. The book contained no author, only a series of precise questions written in black ink that seemed to move when no one watched. Sarsus answered them over the course of a year. The final answer opened a passage through the air itself and brought him into a distant land, far from his home and its suspended archives. Something intelligent was waiting on the other side, an infernal power that offered protection, transportation, and access to forbidden knowledge in exchange for service. Sarsus accepted under carefully recorded terms. He now travels as a warlock and scholar, determined to understand who transplanted him, why he was chosen, and whether his pact is a contract he can eventually amend.
