Appearance

Andorial is a weathered female elf with white, pupil-less eyes that sometimes briefly reflect the identity of a dead spirit speaking through her. Her dark hair is gathered into thickening dreadlocks decorated with teeth, finger bones, and tiny carved charms. She wears an armored coat over bone-stitched leather, with a rack of bone javelins decorated with imp skulls across her back. Two sickles hang ready in her hands, while a brutal handaxe and ritual dagger rest at her belt. Her death-marked focus is a polished vampire skull, worn smooth where her thumb repeatedly passes over its brow. Her body bears numerous old battle scars, though her most unsettling features are her elongated canines, intense gaze, and the deliberate pause she takes before answering any living person. Her vampiric corruption is not true undeath, but she craves blood, is harmed by healing magic, and finds necrotic energy strangely restorative.

Mannerisms

Before speaking to the living, Andorial pauses as though waiting for another voice to finish. She clears her throat softly, touches the vampire skull with her thumb, and speaks in a low, measured tone. When addressing the dead, however, her voice becomes warmer and more intimate. She rings her bell once before entering a crypt, twice before questioning a spirit, and three times when she intends to bind one.

Personality

Grim, patient, and unexpectedly compassionate, Andorial listens more carefully to the dead than to the living. She gives practical advice without softening it, remembers the names of strangers who died in her presence, and treats funerary customs as sacred law. She is difficult to shock, but not difficult to offend. Desecration, careless necromancy, and mocking the dead can bring out a cold fury that her usual restraint barely contains.

Ideals

The dead deserve to be heard, named, and honored. Commanding a corpse is acceptable only when it prevents greater desecration, protects the living, or fulfills the dead creature's own final purpose.

Bonds

Andorial is bound to the Morvane coven and to the dead whose final words she has sworn to carry. Her vampire-skull focus belonged to an ancient predator that massacred one of the coven's sacred communities. She believes the skull still contains an unanswered confession, and she will pursue any lead that may reveal the full truth. She is also fiercely protective of apprentices who are frightened by their first encounter with a ghost.

Flaws

Andorial's hunger for blood is a constant private battle. She fears that restraint is merely the first stage of surrender, so she keeps strict personal rituals that can become controlling and cruel. She also distrusts easy healing, believing that anyone who accepts comfort without paying a price has not yet understood death. When frightened or emotionally cornered, she can treat the living as temporary vessels and the dead as more trustworthy companions.

Quirks

She records the final words of every creature who dies near her, even enemies.
She names each bone javelin after a dead person whose story was never properly told.
She sleeps with the funerary bell beneath her pillow.
She refuses to step over a grave, no matter how urgent the situation.
She sometimes answers questions in the voice of a deceased person before realizing she has done so.

Background

Andorial was born beneath the boughs of an ancient elven burial grove, where the dead were not considered silent, only patient. She entered the Morvane witches' coven after demonstrating an uncanny ability to hear the final thoughts clinging to old bones. Over decades of ritual study, she became the coven's grim but wise speaker for the dead, responsible for questioning the newly departed, preserving their names, and determining which spirits required comfort, justice, or binding. As the second oldest witch in the coven, she embodies the crone aspect of the Threefold Goddess, the keeper of memory, endings, and the wisdom that comes after loss.
