Appearance
A human woman of average height with a compact, sturdy build shaped by military marches rather than heavy labor. Her brown skin is weathered by sun and wind, and her close-cropped black hair is threaded with a narrow gray streak above her left temple. A small, pale scar crosses her lower lip. She wears well-maintained chain mail beneath a plain blue-gray tabard, carries a round shield marked with a simple open hand, and keeps her spear within easy reach. Her eyes are dark and observant, with a tired kindness that becomes fierce when someone is threatened.
Mannerisms
Mavren checks the buckles on her armor whenever she is thinking. She addresses serious decisions as if briefing a squad, stating the objective, the risks, and the first necessary action before she gives her opinion.
Personality
Mavren is patient with the frightened, blunt with the arrogant, and quietly funny when tension needs breaking. She listens more than she speaks, remembers the names of camp followers and junior soldiers, and instinctively places herself between danger and anyone who cannot defend themselves. She has difficulty accepting praise and will redirect any compliment toward the people who made her work possible.
Ideals
Duty. The person who can help must help. Responsibility does not become lighter because the work is frightening, thankless, or impossible to explain afterward.
Bonds
The wounded soldiers of the border skirmish are her sacred charge. She keeps a broken shrine token from the battlefield and intends to restore the shrine, even if she must first discover which deity answered her.
Flaws
She treats hesitation as a moral failure and sometimes pushes herself or others past the point of good judgment. She is suspicious of pacifists who have never had to choose whom to save, and she quietly fears that the divine voice she heard was only her own desperation wearing a sacred mask.
Quirks
Background
Mavren Dast was raised in a river-town household where every person learned to mend nets, share food, and keep watch when the flood sirens sounded. She joined the city levy young, not from patriotism, but because her younger brothers needed the steady ration that came with a soldier’s pay. Years of patrols taught her the unglamorous forms of courage, carrying the injured through mud, standing awake while others slept, and refusing to abandon a frightened recruit who had lost the use of his legs. During a border skirmish, Mavren found a field shrine smashed beneath the hooves of retreating cavalry. She expected silence from the ruined altar, but instead heard a calm inward command to lift the fallen before taking revenge. She obeyed, saving three soldiers from both sides. That moment became the center of her faith. She now serves as a cleric of mercy and steadfast defense, believing that divine power is not a reward for purity, but a responsibility placed in the hands of whoever is willing to remain when everyone else runs. Her military habits remain strong, though she is still learning how to lead people who have not sworn to follow her.
