Appearance
Ryūsei is a broad-shouldered blue-scaled dragonborn with deep cobalt scales weathered to a dull sheen by years of wind, dust, and campaign roads. His silver-blue horns sweep back close to his skull, and pale markings around his muzzle resemble frost gathered along stone. He stands very still when listening, taking up more space than he seems aware of, and wears a battered soldier's cloak pinned with an old unit insignia. His voice is low and measured, but his breath carries a faint metallic chill when he is angry.
Mannerisms
Ryūsei checks the straps and balance of his weapons whenever a conversation becomes tense. He addresses strangers by their formal titles until they prove they do not want one. Before entering a dangerous place, he taps two claws against the center of his chest, a silent reminder to breathe and hold the line.
Personality
Ryūsei is restrained, observant, and unexpectedly considerate. He notices who has not eaten, who is standing nearest the door, and whose boots are beginning to fail. He dislikes boasting but respects competence, especially when it is used quietly. In conversation he leaves long pauses before answering, as if weighing whether his words will help or merely occupy space.
Ideals
Duty. A promise is worth more than comfort, and strength matters most when it is spent protecting someone who cannot repay it.
Bonds
He carries his former unit's insignia and will risk himself to protect any soldier who served under its banner. He also feels responsible for the young recruits who survived the campaign but never found a home afterward.
Flaws
Ryūsei treats hesitation as a personal failing and sometimes commits to a dangerous course simply because backing down would make him feel weak. He is slow to forgive officers, nobles, and anyone who gives orders from a safe distance. When frightened, he becomes quieter and more controlling instead of admitting that he needs help.
Quirks
Background
Ryūsei Nightgrip was raised in a frontier garrison where dragonborn veterans were expected to be useful before they were expected to be understood. His mother served as a standard-bearer, and his father kept the quartermaster's ledgers, but Ryūsei found his place carrying shields, hauling siege rope, and standing watch through bitter rain. He learned that armies were held together less by grand speeches than by the person who shared the last dry blanket and the soldier who stayed awake for the second watch. During a border campaign, Ryūsei became known for holding difficult ground without shouting orders or seeking praise. He fought with a greataxe because it was honest, direct, and impossible to mistake for anything but a commitment. When his unit was dissolved after a political settlement, he kept the old insignia and a bone gaming die from his barracks. Now he travels as a sellsword and adventurer, searching for work that gives his strength a purpose without asking him to pretend that every cause is righteous. He is neither eager to save the world nor eager to see it burn. He simply refuses to let good people be abandoned when he can still stand between them and danger.
