Appearance
Inari is a slender wood elf woman with weathered olive skin, long black hair threaded with pale sea grass, and amber eyes that rarely blink. Her pointed ears are decorated with small shells and carved driftwood charms. She wears layered moss-green and brown clothing beneath nonmetallic hide armor, carries a gnarled staff crowned with a piece of black coral, and keeps a wooden shield painted with the phases of the moon.
Mannerisms
Inari pauses before answering questions, as though listening to wind through distant leaves. She examines footprints, food, and discarded objects before touching them. When irritated, she arranges nearby stones into neat concentric circles.
Personality
Inari is quiet, observant, and deliberate. She prefers simple truths demonstrated by weather, tracks, and seasons over elaborate arguments. Though reserved around settlements, she is fiercely protective of isolated people and creatures, especially those who have been forgotten or overlooked. Her sense of duty is exacting, and once she accepts a responsibility, she follows it with almost unsettling persistence.
Ideals
Order. Every living thing has a place and a season. Freedom without responsibility is merely another form of destruction.
Bonds
The nameless island and Oru's sacred grove are Inari's true home. She will risk almost anything to protect them, recover lost knowledge about them, and ensure that no one exploits the island's ancient magic.
Flaws
Inari treats written maps and official claims of ownership with deep suspicion. She can become rigid and judgmental when others disturb a natural order, and she has difficulty accepting that some things may be lost forever.
Quirks
Background
Inari was born among a woodland enclave that regarded the sea as a boundary no elf should cross. As a young adult, she disobeyed that custom and joined a trading vessel, fascinated by tales of distant islands and reefs where ancient spirits were said to sleep. A sudden storm destroyed the ship. Inari awoke alone on a green island that did not appear on any chart, surrounded by wreckage and endless gray water. The island had one inhabitant, an ageless hermit named Oru, who lived in a stone watchtower and had spent decades tending the island's sacred grove. Oru taught Inari the deeper mysteries of druidcraft, including the language of beasts, the patience of roots, and the discipline required to preserve a fragile balance. Inari remained for many years, learning every trail, tide pool, nesting ground, and storm pattern. When Oru finally died, Inari buried him beneath the oldest tree and left the island in a canoe grown from living wood. She now travels the mainland as an outlander and guardian, seeking signs that the island was forgotten by accident, or deliberately hidden from the world.
