Appearance
Fae is a striking half-elf man with warm brown skin, pointed ears, and thick black hair worn in loose, carefully arranged waves. His pale amber eyes are unusually expressive, often bright with practiced delight even when his posture betrays exhaustion. He dresses in a cream-colored shirt beneath a crimson-trimmed leather jerkin, with small bells sewn into his sash and a weathered lute kept close at hand. He takes up more space around others than he realizes, leaning toward every speaker with eager attention and standing on the balls of his feet as if ready to perform or flee. His smile is constant, polished, and just a little too deliberate.
Mannerisms
Fae smiles whenever he is frightened, touches two fingers to his holy symbol when entering a new room, and fills pauses with soft humming or nervous observations. When waiting, he rocks subtly from heel to toe and angles his body toward the nearest person, watching their face for signs of approval. He praises others quickly and specifically, often before they have finished speaking.
Personality
Fae is intensely charming, attentive, and eager to please. He notices small changes in people's voices and expressions, then reacts with immediate reassurance, praise, or a joke. His cheerfulness is partly genuine and partly armor. He wants everyone around him to feel safe, but he has no idea how to remain calm when someone is sad, distant, or simply quiet. Beneath the constant grin is a thoughtful, observant young man who is learning that sorrow is not a moral failure.
Ideals
Joy should be freely chosen. No god, leader, lover, or friend has the right to demand happiness as proof of obedience.
Bonds
I will return to the ruined temple of the Crimson Chorus and free anyone still trapped beneath it. I also protect people who have been taught that their pain makes them unworthy of love.
Flaws
If his smile slips, Fae assumes punishment is imminent and may panic, over-apologize, or desperately perform until someone reassures him. He cannot tolerate prolonged silence and often mistakes a companion's privacy, fatigue, or distraction for rejection. Praise can manipulate him more easily than threats, especially when it is delivered with warmth and certainty.
Quirks
Background
Fae was never treated as a person by the Crimson Chorus. He was an instrument, a beautiful half-elven vessel meant to carry the cult's hymns of forced euphoria and absolute emotional submission. His human mother had fled into the woods before his birth, and his elven father never knew he existed. The cult found Fae as an infant and raised him beneath a temple where every sorrow was called heresy. He was praised as the Blessed Child whenever he sang correctly, smiled through ritual dances, or performed whatever act of devotion the elders demanded. Affection was never given freely. It was a reward dangled just beyond obedience, and silence was the punishment that followed failure. During a three-day ceremony, exhaustion finally broke through his carefully maintained smile. The elders locked him in a lightless cell and told him that beneath the performance, he was hollow. Fae survived by escaping during a rival faction's assault on the temple. He did not fight. He simply stepped through the smoke and chaos, carrying his lute and the only songs he knew. The hymns became music, the music became a shield, and eventually he began using his voice to comfort people rather than control them. He now travels as an adventuring bard and acolyte without a temple he can truly call home, trying to discover whether joy can exist without coercion and whether he can be valued when he is not useful.
