Appearance
Sylvia is a slender high elf with warm brown skin, long silver-blonde hair, and vivid green eyes flecked with gold. She wears chain mail beneath white and blue clerical vestments, with a polished holy symbol of her deity displayed prominently at her throat. Her expression is calm and observant, though the faint shadows beneath her eyes suggest many sleepless nights spent studying sacred texts and tending the wounded.
Mannerisms
Sylvia speaks softly and precisely, as though every sentence has been rehearsed for a sermon. She touches her holy symbol before entering unfamiliar rooms, counts her breaths when anxious, and instinctively examines the hands of anyone she meets for signs of injury or hard labor.
Personality
Sylvia is patient, scholarly, and quietly compassionate. She listens closely before speaking and remembers small details about people, such as their favorite foods, old injuries, or the names of relatives they have lost. Beneath her calm demeanor is a stubborn courage that emerges whenever someone vulnerable is threatened.
Ideals
Mercy. Every life is a sacred text, and even the most damaged soul deserves the chance to be heard before it is judged.
Bonds
The cracked reliquary from her monastery must be restored and returned to its sacred spring. She also feels responsible for anyone displaced by war, raiders, or religious persecution.
Flaws
Sylvia cannot easily accept that some people are beyond saving. She will exhaust herself trying to redeem the cruel, and she becomes quietly judgmental toward anyone who treats suffering as an unavoidable inconvenience.
Quirks
Background
Sylvia was raised in a secluded elven monastery built around a spring believed to have been blessed by an ancient celestial. Her keen mind made her an exceptional student of theology, history, and medicinal lore, but her frail constitution kept her from the physical disciplines favored by many of her peers. Instead, she became the monastery's archivist and infirmary attendant, learning to recognize illness by a person's breathing and to recite prayers while stitching wounds. Her devotion was practical rather than ornamental. To Sylvia, faith was proven by the hand that steadied a fevered brow and the voice that comforted someone who believed they had been forgotten. Years ago, a band of desperate refugees arrived at the monastery after a border village was destroyed by raiders. Sylvia discovered that the attackers had been searching for an old religious relic hidden beneath the sanctuary. When the monastery elders refused to abandon the relic or evacuate the refugees, Sylvia helped organize the defense. She survived the night, but several of her teachers and many refugees did not. Since then, she has carried the monastery's cracked reliquary as both a sacred duty and a reminder that knowledge and prayer mean little if they are not carried into the world. She now travels as a cleric, seeking lost communities, forgotten shrines, and people whose suffering has gone unanswered.
“Her devotion was practical rather than ornamental.”
