Appearance
Hugo is a man of imposing stature with salt and pepper hair cropped close to his head. His face is etched with the lines of many years spent in the sun and wind, featuring a prominent, straight nose and a well groomed beard. He typically wears a polished suit of chain mail beneath a surcoat bearing the crest of the town guard, and his leather boots are always spit-shined to a mirror finish. His eyes are a sharp, piercing blue that seem to be constantly assessing the tactical layout of every room he enters.
Mannerisms
He has a habit of clasping his hands behind his back and rocking slightly on his heels when thinking. He always addresses strangers as 'Citizen' until he has been properly introduced.
Personality
Hugo is the definition of a career officer, possessing a voice that naturally carries across a crowded square without ever needing to shout. He values discipline, punctuality, and clear chains of command above all else. Despite his stern exterior, he has a profound sense of paternal responsibility for those under his charge, often staying up late to ensure the guard's equipment is properly maintained or that the patrol schedules are fair.
Ideals
Responsibility. A leader's primary purpose is to ensure the safety and prosperity of those who cannot defend themselves.
Bonds
My town is my home, and every citizen in it is someone I have sworn an oath to protect with my life.
Flaws
I am often too rigid in my adherence to the law, sometimes failing to see the gray areas where justice and mercy overlap.
Quirks
Background
Hugo spent twenty years in the professional infantry of the crown, fighting in border wars that most people have already forgotten. When he returned to his home town of Oakhaven, he found a community suffering under the neglect of a lazy and corrupt local militia. The mayor, recognizing a man of action, offered him the position of Captain. Hugo accepted and spent the next three years purging the ranks of drunkards and bullies, replacing them with trained professionals. He turned the town guard into a respected institution that the common folk could actually trust. However, recent rumors of cult activity and strange disappearances in the nearby hills have forced Hugo to step away from his administrative duties. He realizes that the threats facing his town are no longer just common thieves and rowdy brawlers. To truly protect Oakhaven, he must take up his sword and shield once more and lead from the front, even if it means leaving the comfort of the barracks for the dangers of the wilderness.
