Appearance
Voraena is a statuesque female elf, 6'1" tall, with a balanced athletic build and elegant, feminine lines. Her skin is pale with a faint silvery sheen, her hair is long, platinum-blonde, and usually tied back in a severe practical bun, though loose strands often frame her face. Her frost-blue eyes are sharp, intelligent, and difficult to read. She carries herself with formal military poise, though a tension in her shoulders and the faint creases in her rumpled High Spire enforcer uniform suggest she has not slept well in some time. Her uniform is deep navy with silver piping and rank insignia, worn over a black turtleneck and navy trousers, with polished black combat boots and a silver utility belt.
Mannerisms
She stands perfectly straight even when at ease, and when thinking she taps one finger against her thumb as if counting possibilities only she can see. She speaks in a cool, measured tone, rarely raising her voice, and tends to pause a moment before answering, as though weighing an entire tactical map in silence. When embarrassed or genuinely amused, she looks briefly aside instead of smiling outright.
Personality
Voraena is disciplined, observant, and intensely self-contained. She prefers clarity over comfort, direct answers over empty reassurance, and competence over charm. Beneath that formal exterior is a deep reservoir of empathy she tries to hide, because feelings were always treated as liabilities in the High Spire. She values precision, restraint, and reliability, but she is also quietly sentimental, especially toward small gestures of loyalty or kindness. She is not a natural liar, but she has learned that survival sometimes requires withholding the truth until the right moment.
Ideals
Duty should protect people, not merely preserve hierarchy. Discipline matters, but conscience matters more. A commander who demands obedience without responsibility is not worthy of command.
Bonds
She still carries her old service insignia, not as a badge of pride, but as a reminder that she once belonged to something larger than herself. She feels responsible for the innocents who were harmed by the order she refused, and she will not let them be forgotten. If she finds others discarded by power, she is compelled to protect them, even when it costs her standing or safety.
Flaws
She trusts procedure too readily, then feels betrayed when procedure fails her. Under stress she becomes tightly controlled, almost cold, and can mistake silence for safety. She also has a dangerous habit of carrying burdens alone, refusing help until she is already exhausted or cornered.
Quirks
Background
Voraena was raised in the High Spire, a gleaming administrative arcology where elven memory was measured in policy, protocol, and perfection. From an early age she was molded into an enforcer of order, trained to think three moves ahead, to speak only when necessary, and to consider obedience a virtue. She excelled in every drill. Her instructors praised her composure, her tactical mind, and the almost unsettling calm with which she could evaluate a threat, then dismantle it with ruthless efficiency. That discipline made her indispensable, and eventually dangerous to the people who commanded her. Voraena began to notice the cracks behind the Spire's polished rhetoric, the quiet cruelties buried beneath procedure, the way authority often protected itself instead of justice. She did not rebel loudly. She investigated, hesitated, and listened. Then came the mission that broke her certainty, a lawful order that demanded an unforgivable act. She refused, and in doing so became a liability. Now stranded in a modern world that feels both alien and strangely merciful, she clings to what remains of her training while trying to decide whether loyalty to law still means loyalty to the people who write it.
“That discipline made her indispensable, and eventually dangerous to the people who commanded her.”
