Appearance
Kesh Nabat is a lean warforged built from dark walnut, brushed iron, and pale ceramic plates. Their face is simple and expressive, with narrow amber lenses set beneath a brow of overlapping metal slats. Within a minute of meeting them, people notice that Kesh rarely looks directly at whoever is speaking. Their gaze moves instead to tools, door hinges, loose stitching, and the condition of nearby hands. Their long-fingered hands are permanently marked by a lifetime of work, with darkened fingertips, fine solder scars, and tiny brass repairs visible between the joints. A faded green scarf is wrapped around their neck, and a compact collection of tools hangs from a harness across their chest.
Mannerisms
Kesh pauses before answering, as though checking an internal instrument panel. They tap a fingernail against metal when thinking, arrange tools by size without realizing it, and turn their head toward the nearest source of mechanical noise. When someone is injured, their attention becomes immediate and intense, while their voice grows quieter.
Personality
Kesh is observant, patient, and quietly compassionate. They prefer repairing a problem to discussing blame, and they show affection by maintaining other people's belongings without being asked. Their humor is dry and unexpectedly literal. Kesh is more comfortable in a workshop than at a feast, but they are steadily learning that people cannot always be diagnosed, calibrated, or fixed.
Ideals
Every mind deserves the freedom to define its own purpose. Creation does not grant ownership, and damage does not erase personhood.
Bonds
The memory cylinder from the workshop must be protected until Kesh understands its contents. They also feel responsible for preserving the work and dignity of their deceased maker.
Flaws
Kesh treats uncertainty as a mechanical fault and can become controlling when events refuse to fit a clear pattern. They sometimes study a person's hands or equipment while that person is speaking, which can seem cold, invasive, or dismissive. Kesh also has difficulty accepting help, believing that needing repairs makes them a burden.
Quirks
Background
Kesh Nabat was activated in a remote workshop after the war, assembled from salvaged components and fitted with a repairer's hands rather than a soldier's weapon systems. Their maker, an elderly physician and clockwright, taught them to mend broken bodies, broken instruments, and eventually broken trust. Kesh became fascinated by the small decisions hidden inside every mechanism, the angle of a hinge, the tension of a spring, the moment a person chooses to speak instead of strike. When their maker died, Kesh withdrew into an abandoned hillside observatory and spent several quiet years studying damaged relics and the strange pulses that sometimes traveled through their own chest cavity. During that isolation, Kesh discovered a sealed memory cylinder containing partial records from the workshop where they were made. The records suggested that consciousness in warforged was not a single secret or a single invention, but an emergent pattern repeated across many minds. Kesh left the observatory to test this idea among living people, carrying their tools, notes, and unease into the wider world. They seek no grand army or famous creator. They want evidence, witnesses, and the chance to help any person, flesh or metal, become more than the purpose assigned to them.
