Appearance
Lysander is a slender tiefling with dusky crimson skin, swept-back black hair, and curved ivory horns marked with faint natural ridges. Their eyes are pale gold with vertical pupils, and a thin, spade-tipped tail often curls around one ankle while they read. They wear layered scholar's robes beneath a weather-stained traveling cloak, with a spellbook secured by several leather straps and small pouches of dried herbs hanging from their belt.
Mannerisms
Lysander speaks softly and precisely, often pausing to choose the most accurate word. They touch the spine of their spellbook before attempting difficult magic, tilt their head when listening, and unconsciously trace protective sigils on nearby surfaces with one finger.
Personality
Lysander is thoughtful, gentle, and intensely curious. They prefer listening to speaking, but become animated when discussing old magic, rare plants, or ethical questions. They assume every creature has a story worth hearing, even when that optimism puts them in danger.
Ideals
Mercy. Power is only virtuous when it is used to protect those who have no power of their own.
Bonds
The ruined observatory and its lost manuscripts are the closest thing Lysander has to a home. They will risk almost anything to protect the people and places that shelter the misunderstood.
Flaws
Lysander overestimates the power of knowledge to solve emotional problems. When frightened or ashamed, they retreat into analysis, secrecy, and elaborate rationalizations rather than asking for help.
Quirks
Background
Lysander was raised in a quiet village where their infernal heritage made them an object of curiosity, suspicion, and occasional cruelty. They learned early that people often feared what they did not understand, so they turned to books, old records, and the patient study of plants. An itinerant wizard eventually recognized Lysander's talent and taught them the fundamentals of arcane theory, but Lysander's questions about the moral cost of magic proved too troublesome for a conventional apprenticeship. Seeking answers, Lysander withdrew to a ruined observatory in the hills and lived there for several years as a hermit. They cultivated medicinal herbs, copied damaged manuscripts, and meditated beneath the stars. During this solitude, Lysander uncovered a hidden chamber containing a fragment of a much older magical treatise. Its diagrams suggested that infernal power could be redirected into protective magic through acts of genuine self-sacrifice. The discovery was incomplete, and the observatory was later disturbed by unknown intruders. Now Lysander travels the world to recover the missing pages, test the theory, and learn whether their heritage is a curse, a tool, or simply one part of who they are.
