Appearance
Amunet is a copper-skinned human woman with entirely human features and striking golden eyes that seem to hold the memory of a vanished bloodline. Her black hair is usually braided and protected beneath a desert veil, which she sometimes draws across her mouth against red sand and prying eyes. She wears a sleeveless V-neck vest, loose poofy bloomers, desert boots, golden arm ornaments, golden earrings, archery bracers, gloves, and a belt bearing a second scimitar. Her movements are quiet and economical. Within moments of meeting her, people notice that her eyes constantly map exits, elevations, hands, and shadows, while her ink-stained fingers bear the fine calluses of a lifelong scribe and relic handler. Above her brow rests the Crown of Crystals, an ornate Egyptian-inspired relic of ancient gold shaped like divine wings, with symmetrical strands of blue gemstones hanging like a celestial code.
Mannerisms
Amunet pauses before entering any room, silently counting exits and measuring the distance to the highest vantage point. She cleans sand from her weapons with the edge of a folded parchment, recites damaged inscriptions under her breath, and addresses Babi in a calm conversational tone even during combat. When lying, she becomes more formal and starts calling people by their full names.
Personality
Amunet is courteous, observant, and intensely self-possessed. She speaks like a curator even when negotiating with thieves, describing danger in precise historical terms and correcting inaccurate legends without raising her voice. Her compassion is quiet but substantial. She pays rescued laborers before paying herself, shares water without being asked, and treats the remains of the dead with reverence. Toward enemies who endanger innocents or desecrate the past, however, her gentleness disappears completely.
Ideals
History belongs to the living. The dead cannot defend their names, so I will preserve the truth, expose those who exploit it, and return sacred relics to the people whose ancestors made them.
Bonds
The lost Anubian cylinder is the last object her parents ever possessed, and Amunet will cross any desert, tomb, or hostile court to recover it. She is devoted to the curator who raised her and considers the museum of Al'Kirat her true home. Babi, her female hippopotamus companion, is both her dearest friend and her most terrifying guardian.
Flaws
Amunet can become ruthlessly practical when someone threatens an artifact, a historical truth, or Babi. She tells herself that knowledge must be preserved at any cost, but she sometimes values the relic over the people standing beside it. She also distrusts sentimental promises, especially promises that sound too much like the final words her parents never had the chance to keep.
Quirks
Background
Amunet was orphaned in Al'Kirat before she was old enough to understand why the city gates had swallowed her parents. Her human father and tiefling mother had crossed into the red sands of the Kirat Desert in search of Anan'Thul, the mythical sunken city said to lie beneath the dunes. They never returned. The museum curator of Al'Kirat took the copper-skinned child into her household and made her a pupil, teaching her ancient scripts, funerary customs, dynastic histories, and the hidden meanings of Anubian temple architecture. Amunet became a meticulous scribe, able to reconstruct damaged inscriptions by comparing a single surviving curve of ink with entire libraries of precedent. Her golden eyes, the only obvious reminder of her tiefling lineage, became famous among the museum staff as the eyes that never forgot a symbol.
