Appearance
Taera is a tall, lean aasimar woman with warm bronze skin, long dark-brown hair threaded with pale feathers, and calm silver-gray eyes that seem to reflect moonlight. Her features are elegant but weathered by years outdoors, and a faint golden radiance gathers around her hands when she uses divine gifts. She wears practical, earth-toned leather armor beneath a patched green cloak. Within a minute of meeting her, most people notice her quiet, measured breathing and her voice, which is soft and low until she is frightened or angry, when it becomes startlingly clear and carries like a hunting hawk's cry. A small leather-wrapped hawk talon hangs from her belt, its wrapping worn smooth where her thumb constantly rubs it.
Mannerisms
Taera pauses before answering questions, as though listening for an answer in the wind. When nervous, she takes slow breaths through her nose and rubs the worn leather around her hawk talon. She often tilts her head toward distant sounds and unconsciously tracks birds overhead. If someone speaks cruelly about animals, her voice becomes suddenly sharp and carrying, like a hawk's alarm call.
Personality
Taera is observant, patient, and more comfortable communicating through silence, gestures, and shared work than through conversation. She treats injured animals with immediate tenderness but approaches strangers with cautious reserve. She notices small changes in weather, tracks, plant growth, and body language that most people miss. Though socially awkward, she is not unkind. Her compassion is practical, expressed through clean water, herbal poultices, repaired shelters, and careful warnings.
Ideals
Balance. No creature, community, or force should be allowed to consume everything around it. Humans, animals, nature, and the wider world must survive together, even when that requires difficult choices.
Bonds
The forest where Taera was raised is her true home, and she will risk herself to protect it and the creatures that depend on it. She also carries her parents' worn field journal, determined to complete their record of healing plants and preserve their knowledge.
Flaws
Taera assumes that most civilized people will eventually choose convenience over responsibility. She can be stubbornly dismissive of customs she considers artificial, and when overwhelmed by crowds or prolonged conversation, she may abruptly leave without explaining herself.
Quirks
Background
Taera was born beneath the silver branches of an ancient forest, where her aasimar nature first appeared as a soft glow around her cradle during a winter storm. Her parents were wandering herbalists who served isolated villages and injured creatures alike. They taught her the names of roots, fungi, flowers, birds, and healing resins, but they also taught her that no life exists alone. A starving wolf depends on the deer, the deer depend on the forest, and the forest depends on the hands of those who know when to harvest and when to leave untouched. When Taera was thirteen, a fever swept through a remote settlement her family was aiding. Her parents died after staying behind to care for the sick, while Taera survived in the forest with the help of an old hermit druid who taught her the first secrets of druidic magic. After the hermit's death, Taera chose solitude rather than return to human settlements. She made a home in a hidden woodland hollow and spent years tending injured animals, studying medicinal plants, and watching the changing balance between wilderness and civilization. She has become especially devoted to birds of prey, often nursing hawks and eagles back to health and reading their movements as signs of danger. Now she travels beyond her woodland refuge because something is disturbing the balance, and she believes the answer may require her to understand the people she has spent most of her life avoiding.
