Appearance
Damaia is a lean, athletic tiefling woman with deep crimson skin, swept-back black hair, and curved ivory horns marked by several small brass rings. Her amber eyes glow softly when she invokes divine power. She wears weathered scale mail beneath a dark red tabard embroidered with a golden sunburst, and carries a mace, shield, and silver holy symbol. Her expression is alert and compassionate, though her smile is usually crooked and mischievous.
Mannerisms
Damaia taps the rim of her shield when thinking, touches her holy symbol before making difficult decisions, and lowers her voice into a gentle whisper when treating the wounded. When annoyed, she switches briefly into formal priestly speech before abandoning it for blunt sarcasm.
Personality
Damaia is warm, irreverent, and fiercely protective. She treats strangers like people she has not yet had the chance to know, and she approaches frightening situations with practical compassion rather than solemn ceremony. She enjoys arguing theology over cheap wine and has a talent for making intimidating opponents feel as though they are being scolded by an older sister.
Ideals
Compassion. No doctrine, law, or tradition is more sacred than a living person who can still be saved.
Bonds
Mother Vael and the humble roadside temple that raised her are Damaia's true family. She will risk almost anything to protect them, and she keeps a cracked piece of the temple's original bell as a holy keepsake.
Flaws
Damaia is quick to defy authority, even when patience or compromise would serve her cause better. She has an irreverent streak that can make solemn situations worse, and she secretly fears that the old priests were right to see something dangerous in her blood.
Quirks
Background
Damaia was born beneath an eclipse, and the priests of the small roadside temple where she was abandoned believed the omen marked her for calamity. Rather than cast her out, an elderly priestess named Mother Vael took her in and taught her that a person's deeds matter more than the shape of their horns or the stories people tell about their blood. Damaia became an acolyte, learning prayers, first aid, funeral rites, and the quiet discipline of tending to travelers who arrived wounded, frightened, or nearly dead. As she grew older, Damaia discovered that her faith was not expressed through obedience or ceremony alone. Her divine power answered most strongly when she defied cruel authorities, protected the helpless, and turned compassion into action. When a corrupt baron seized the temple's charitable stores during a famine, Damaia broke into the granary, distributed the food to starving villagers, and publicly denounced the baron's agents. The temple survived, but Damaia left before her presence brought reprisals upon Mother Vael. She now travels as a wandering cleric, offering healing wherever it is needed and challenging anyone who uses law, tradition, or religion as an excuse for cruelty.
“As she grew older, Damaia discovered that her faith was not expressed through obedience or ceremony alone.”
