Appearance
A broad-shouldered human with a carefully groomed dark beard and close-cropped hair. His polished armor and immaculate robe seem at odds with his hands, which are ink-stained at the fingertips and rough from years of handling altar stone and weapons. He walks with measured, heel-first steps, pausing just long enough before speaking to make each word feel like a verdict. His gaze is steady and appraising, as if every stranger has already failed a test.
Mannerisms
He pauses before answering, as if consulting an invisible tribunal. When displeased, he smooths the edge of his prayer book with one thumb and quietly recites a line of doctrine.
Personality
He is formal, controlled, and relentlessly critical. He speaks of hatred as if it were a moral discipline, insisting that he despises cruelty, deceit, cowardice, and eventually anyone who fails to meet his standards. He can be courteous, but his courtesy feels like a sentence being read aloud.
Ideals
Order. People left to their own impulses become cruel and corrupt. A strict hierarchy, enforced without hesitation, is the only thing that can keep their worst instincts contained.
Bonds
He keeps the temple’s prayer book that he once copied by hand. Its margins contain his first private condemnations, and he will risk himself to prevent it from being destroyed or read aloud by someone he considers unworthy.
Flaws
He mistakes suspicion for wisdom and treats disagreement as evidence of moral failure. When someone challenges his authority, he would rather punish them than consider that he may be wrong.
Quirks
Background
Hate Monger was raised among the quiet routines of a temple, where he learned to copy prayers, tend lamps, and interpret doctrine for people who wanted comfort. He found little comfort in it himself. To him, every act of kindness seemed to conceal vanity, every apology a bid for advantage, and every disagreement proof that people were too foolish to recognize their own corruption. He became a skilled calligrapher, but his careful script filled more pages with condemnations than blessings. When a mob drove a family of refugees from the temple steps, Hate Monger watched the priests debate the proper response until the family had vanished into the winter streets. He took up armor and a holy symbol, convinced that compassion without authority was merely cowardice in ceremonial robes. He now travels as a paladin, offering protection when it serves his doctrine and punishment when it does not. He calls his mission the cleansing of the world, though even he has not decided whether he wants to save it or simply see it judged.
