Appearance
Baron Bluetail is a small, rusty-scaled kobold with bright sapphire-blue eyes and a brilliantly colored blue tail that contrasts sharply with his weathered hide. He wears battered scale mail beneath a patched clerical robe, carries a round shield bearing a faded draconic emblem, and keeps a tarnished holy symbol close to his heart. His claws are stained with herbs, ash, and ink from years of solitary study.
Mannerisms
Baron tilts his head dramatically when pretending not to understand a question, taps his holy symbol three times before making an important decision, and whispers short prayers to his missing deity whenever he sees blue light or deep water.
Personality
Baron is clever, watchful, and cheerfully irreverent. He treats every mystery as a puzzle and every dangerous situation as an opportunity to prove that small creatures can accomplish great things. He is protective of the vulnerable, fond of dramatic religious speeches, and prone to harmless mischief when he believes it will teach someone humility.
Ideals
Faith should lead to kindness. If devotion does not make the world better for the frightened, the hungry, and the forgotten, then it is only pride wearing holy robes.
Bonds
The ruined shrine of his dragon deity is the last surviving piece of his tribe, and Baron will risk anything to restore it and uncover the truth of the dragon's disappearance.
Flaws
Baron is secretive about his revelation and assumes that anyone who questions his faith may be connected to the dragon's disappearance. His tricks sometimes go too far, and he can mistake stubbornness for courage when his beliefs are challenged.

Background
Baron Bluetail was once the youngest servant in the household of an ancient dragon whose name has been erased from most mortal histories. His kobold tribe guarded the dragon's hoard, tended its shrine, and passed down a religion built around the dragon's wisdom and protection. Then, without warning, the dragon disappeared. No corpse was found, no farewell was given, and even the dragon's divine presence seemed to vanish from the world. The tribe slowly scattered or died, until Baron was the last one left to tend the empty shrine. Rather than abandon his faith, Baron withdrew into the old dragon's ruined sanctum and became a hermit. He studied damaged tablets, cultivated medicinal herbs, and followed strange omens written in smoke, spilled water, and starlight. His research revealed that the dragon may not be dead at all, but imprisoned, transformed, or deliberately hidden from the gods. Baron now travels as a cleric and investigator, carrying his dragon's symbol and seeking every clue he can find. He is devout enough to pray over every meal, but impish enough to hide a companion's boots if they insult his religion. Beneath the tricks is a sincere desire to guide others toward mercy, courage, and a good ending, even when his methods are unconventional.
