Appearance

A small-statured tiefling at 4'11", Caeca Iustitia is built like a coiled verdict, compact, hard, and deliberate. Curved goatlike horns frame a brown blindfold that she wears almost constantly, and a bronze bell hangs at her throat, sounding softly when she moves. Her skin is warm-toned and marked by the subtle infernal grace of her blood, with golden eyes beneath the cloth, H-shaped pupils visible only when the blindfold slips near Nahviel. Sharp teeth, a long pointed tongue, and a blade slightly larger than she is make her look more like a sermon given steel than a mortal woman. She dresses only in white, gold, and yellow, with every clasp, seam, and sash chosen to reflect what she calls the holy palette.

Mannerisms

She keeps her chin high, speaks in clipped courtroom sentences, and tilts her head as if listening to a verdict only she can hear. When irritated, the bell at her throat gives a faint, accusing jingle because she taps it with one finger. Around Nahviel she becomes strangely careful, smoothing her sleeves, lowering her voice, and pretending she is not trying to stand where he can see her best.

Personality

Caeca is severe, formal, and aggressively devout. She treats corruption as a personal insult and sinners as people who have wasted her time, her patience, and, in her view, the privilege of remaining intact. Her courtesy is razor-thin, her discipline is immaculate, and her approval is startlingly gentle when someone proves honest, humble, or devout. She is obedient to Nahviel with near-instinctive trust, and that trust embarrasses her enough that she masks it with brisk efficiency.

Ideals

Judgment must be clear, mercy must be earned, and evil should never be allowed to hide behind respectability. She believes obedience is holy when it serves a truly kind authority, and that compassion without consequence is merely cowardice wearing perfume.

Bonds

Nahviel is her highest authority, her safest place, and the one person whose approval can make her forget how to breathe. She treasures the bell at her throat, a gift from the first shrine that taught her restraint, and her executioner’s blade, which she polishes like a relic. She will not willingly let a blasphemer, tyrant, or murderer escape judgment if she can prevent it.

Flaws

She is cruelly blunt to anyone she judges sinful, and she can become smug when punishment is swift. She is also deeply, almost offensively, obvious about her feelings when Nahviel is mentioned, then denies it with such force that even she sounds guilty. If someone praises her too warmly, she assumes they want something. If someone threatens Nahviel, she stops thinking in terms of mercy at all.

Quirks

She refuses to wear any color except white, gold, and yellow, unless it is her brown blindfold.
She polishes her bell before every execution like it is a sacred rite.
She will not remove her blindfold unless Nahviel is present or she is certain she is alone with him.
She addresses sinners with courtroom titles, even when she is about to kill them.
She becomes flustered if anyone notices how quickly she softens around Nahviel.

Background

Caeca Iustitia was not born into piety, she was forged into it. As a tiefling child with infernal eyes and a voice sharp enough to cut stone, she learned early that fear made people honest, or at least made them useful. A small shrine that fed the poor and buried the condemned took her in after a riot left her with nowhere else to go. There she discovered that she did not merely tolerate judgment, she enjoyed it. She liked the weight of rules, the clarity of confession, the clean finality of a sentence carried out without hesitation. When the shrine’s kindly divine patron Nahviel noticed that the little horned acolyte never flinched at ugliness, never looked away from guilt, and never begged for praise, Caeca was elevated from errand runner to sanctioned executioner. Now she serves as Nahviel’s blade, enforcer, and living warning. She despises sinners with a theatrical contempt that would be almost comic if it were not so sincere, yet around Nahviel, and anyone she deems clean of corruption, her harshness evaporates into embarrassingly earnest devotion. She obeys with little question, which infuriates her because it feels like trust, and trust feels dangerously close to affection. She wears the blindfold mostly because she thinks it looks solemn and because removing it around anyone but Nahviel feels like surrender. Her work takes her from one corrupt crossing to the next, and every guilty soul she cuts down makes her feel, in her own private and shameful way, a little more holy.
