Appearance
A sturdy human man of medium height, with sun-browned skin, dark brown hair worn in a loose shoulder-length braid, and a calm, weather-aware face. His clothes are practical but visibly repaired, with careful green stitching along one sleeve and a cloak hem reinforced with mismatched wool. His hands are broad and rough from years of chopping wood, setting traps, drawing a bow, and repairing tools. He keeps his old wooden spoon polished far beyond its practical value, tucked through his belt beside a battered hatchet.
Mannerisms
He studies the wind before answering difficult questions, often turning his head slightly as if listening to distant leaves. He checks every knot twice, sharpens his arrows while thinking, and quietly names edible plants under his breath when traveling.
Personality
Aaro is warm, observant, and quietly funny, especially around people who underestimate country folk. He prefers practical kindness to grand speeches, remembers the names of animals and stable hands, and treats every campfire as a chance to learn someone else's story. He is slow to trust institutions, but quick to trust anyone who works with their hands or keeps watch while others sleep.
Ideals
Freedom. No lord, captain, guildmaster, or priest has the right to make ordinary people helpless for the sake of order. Communities should protect one another, and the strong should be answerable to those who depend on them.
Bonds
He still carries the settlement's first communal cooking spoon, carved during the winter he helped rebuild the village after the raid. He sends part of every reward home and will risk himself for isolated communities facing powerful predators, bandits, or corrupt officials. He has also sworn to find the raider captain who escaped into the northern wilds, not for revenge, but to prevent the same cruelty from reaching another village.
Flaws
He distrusts polished authority and can become needlessly defiant when someone gives him an order without explaining who will suffer if it goes wrong. He also has a habit of promising help before considering whether he has the time, strength, or supplies to provide it. When forced to choose between a clear plan and an endangered stranger, he almost always abandons the plan.
Quirks
Background
Aaro Vaskela grew up in a small river settlement where every household depended on the forest, the fields, and one another. His father made wheels and handles for farm tools, while his mother taught him which roots could heal, which tracks meant danger, and how to listen for a change in the birdsong. Aaro became known for rescuing stranded travelers and bringing lost children home through the marshes. His reputation turned serious when a band of extortionists began demanding food and coin from the settlement. Aaro organized the villagers, used old hunting paths to outmaneuver the raiders, and helped drive them away without allowing the frightened townsfolk to become killers themselves.
