Appearance
Gorrok is a towering hobgoblin male with russet skin darkened to the color of dried blood, a powerful frame, and a latticework of old scars. A prominent scar runs from his left temple across his broken nose to the corner of his mouth, pulling one side of his face into a permanent half-snarl. His deep-set black eyes are cold, alert, and calculating. His hair is shorn close, his pointed left ear is missing a small piece, and his heavy dark steel plate armor is battered, repaired, and etched with crude warding runes. Spiked pauldrons, iron-studded gauntlets, a dark fur cloak, and a wolf-headed clasp complete his warlord's appearance. A massive greataxe rests across his back, while a curved blade and worn warhammer hang at his belt.
Mannerisms
Gorrok speaks in a low, measured rumble and never raises his voice unless giving a battlefield command. He studies doors, exits, weapons, and hands before he studies faces. When considering a decision, he taps one iron-riveted knuckle against the head of his warhammer. He addresses subordinates by rank or function rather than by name.
Personality
Gorrok is controlled, observant, and relentlessly pragmatic. He treats every conversation as a negotiation and every person as a potential asset, liability, or target. He respects competence regardless of species, but he has no patience for vanity, panic, or leaders who cannot accept responsibility for their decisions.
Ideals
Order. Freedom is merely another name for disorder when no one is strong enough to enforce the rules. A disciplined hierarchy, maintained through fear when necessary, is the only reliable path to survival.
Bonds
The soldiers who survived Gorrok's first command are his possession and his responsibility. He will protect them from any threat, even if doing so requires conquering the land around them. He also keeps his former commander's broken insignia as a reminder that authority must always be seized, tested, and defended.
Flaws
Gorrok cannot tolerate defiance that goes unanswered. He confuses mercy with weakness when others are watching, and he is willing to sacrifice innocents if he believes the resulting order will be stronger. His intelligence feeds his arrogance, and he is deeply afraid that without fear and discipline, those beneath him will discover he is only one failure away from losing everything.
Quirks
Background
Gorrok was born among hobgoblin warbands that measured worth in discipline, endurance, and results. He learned early that strength without command was merely expendable muscle, while command without calculation was a short road to the grave. He served as a line breaker, executioner, and eventually battlefield captain, mastering the use of the greataxe while studying formations, supply routes, and the weaknesses hidden inside every chain of command. His scars are records of campaigns rather than ornaments, each one marking a lesson paid for in blood. When his former commander ordered a doomed assault to preserve his own political standing, Gorrok refused to waste his soldiers. He redirected the attack, saved the surviving troops, and killed the commander when the man attempted to restore control through fear. Gorrok was branded a traitor, but the soldiers who followed him recognized the truth. Since then, he has ruled a harsh encampment on the edge of settled lands, turning deserters, raiders, and exiles into a disciplined force. He does not seek friendship or glory. He seeks permanence, and he believes the world belongs to those ruthless enough to impose order upon it.
