Appearance
A handsome human man with sun-browned skin, thick dark hair worn loose to his collar, and warm hazel eyes that seem perpetually amused. His build is lean, athletic, and rope-strong rather than bulky. Salt has roughened his hands, wind has weathered his cheeks, and he carries the clean, unmistakable smell of tar, seawater, and citrus soap, which he knows perfectly well and occasionally uses as an excuse to stand closer. He dresses in a weathered blue coat over a linen shirt, polished boots, and a red sash, with a well-kept longsword at his hip and a battered sailor's charm tied to his wrist.
Mannerisms
Miran leans against doorframes as if they were ship's rails, rolls a coin across his knuckles while listening, and gives an elaborate half-bow whenever someone threatens him. He frequently addresses officials as "my dear commander" regardless of rank, and lowers his voice into conspiratorial warmth whenever he is about to make a dangerous suggestion.
Personality
Charming, irreverent, and effortlessly gallant, Miran meets danger with a rakish smile and a well-timed joke. He flirts with danger almost as readily as he flirts with attractive strangers, but his humor is a shield rather than cruelty. He is observant, empathetic, and quick to defend anyone being bullied by wealth, rank, or institutional power. When his composure finally breaks, the sudden sincerity beneath it is startlingly intense.
Ideals
Freedom. No crown, court, guild, or captain has the right to grind a person into cargo. A life lived boldly and responsibly is worth more than obedience purchased by fear.
Bonds
The surviving members of his first crew are his family. He will risk fortune, reputation, and life itself to free anyone trapped by unjust bondage or corrupt authority.
Flaws
He cannot resist needling authority, even when silence would be safer. His confidence sometimes becomes reckless vanity, and he is prone to treating genuine fear or grief as a joke until the danger has passed. He also has a weakness for impossible rescues, charming strangers, and anyone who can make him laugh at his own expense.
Quirks
Background
Miran Oduro was born in a busy harbor district to a family of dockworkers and chandlers. He learned early that a ship was a small kingdom, and that the difference between a good captain and a tyrant was whether the people below deck were treated as human beings. He grew into a clever, capable sailor, equally comfortable climbing rigging in a gale, reading a coastline, or talking his way past a suspicious harbor master. His charm became a kind of second uniform, worn as naturally as his red sash, though it never prevented him from noticing who was being cheated or beaten by someone with a badge and a title. When a corrupt magistrate seized his ship and sold several crewmen into forced labor over a falsified debt, Miran openly mocked the court, helped his companions escape, and took command of a stolen cutter. He became a swordsman because the sea demanded it, and a fighter because courage without discipline gets good people killed. He now sails from port to port as a privateer, smuggler, and occasional rescuer, choosing contracts according to his own shifting sense of fairness. Beneath the jokes, flirtation, and theatrical confidence is a deeply compassionate man who cannot tolerate humiliation inflicted on the powerless. He tells everyone he is chasing freedom, but part of him is still trying to make amends to every sailor he could not save.
