Appearance
Gulnara Vezhdi is a tall, broad-shouldered half-orc woman with pale green-gray skin, a heavy brow, small lower tusks, and iron-black hair braided close to her scalp. Her eyes are a washed-out blue, almost colorless in winter light. She wears weather-stained scale mail beneath a fur-lined gray cloak, and the symbol of Auril, a six-pointed snowflake carved into a piece of blue-white ice, hangs at her throat. Her face is calm and severe, with the stillness of someone watching a corpse freeze.
Mannerisms
Gulnara speaks in a low, even voice and rarely raises it, even during danger. She pauses before answering questions, as though waiting for frost to settle. When angry, she rubs her thumb across the edge of her ice-carved holy symbol. She never sits with her back to a fire.
Personality
Gulnara is cold, watchful, and blunt. She does not comfort people when they grieve, but she will remain beside them until the grief has passed. She respects endurance more than charm, and truth more than politeness. She rarely laughs, though she sometimes shows a thin smile when a storm arrives at exactly the right moment.
Ideals
Endurance. The world is cold, and only those who accept its cruelty can survive. I will never pretend that kindness is stronger than winter.
Bonds
The frozen pass where her family died is sacred to Gulnara. She intends to return there one day and build a shrine of blue ice over the buried dead.
Flaws
Gulnara mistakes emotional restraint for strength and views compassion with suspicion. She will let an enemy freeze rather than offer aid, even when mercy would cost her little. Once she decides that someone is weak or faithless, changing her mind is nearly impossible.
Quirks
Background
Gulnara was born among a scattered half-orc hunting clan that moved between high valleys, salt grasslands, and wind-scoured passes. Her mother taught her to read animal tracks, judge the age of snow, and sleep lightly beneath a sky full of stars. Her father, a caravan guard, was killed during a spring thaw when an avalanche buried the trail. Gulnara survived three days in a pocket of stone, listening to the mountain groan above her. When rescuers finally found her, she was alive, but the rest of the caravan was gone. In the months that followed, Gulnara began leaving offerings of blood and lamp oil on frozen cairns. She believed the storm had chosen who would live, and that survival was not a gift but a command. A wandering priest of Auril found her at one such cairn and recognized the devotion in her silence. Under his instruction, Gulnara learned to bless the cold, preserve the dead, and regard mercy as a weakness that must be carefully rationed. Now she travels as an outlander and priestess, bringing Auril's winter to those who defy it. She does not seek suffering for its own sake. She simply believes that fear, hunger, and cold reveal what people truly are.
