Appearance
A small, broad-shouldered rock gnome with weathered bronze skin, bright amber eyes, and a neatly braided iron-gray beard threaded with copper wire. Eldon wears reinforced scale mail beneath a dark artificer's coat, a sturdy shield marked with a gear-and-key emblem, and a collection of carefully labeled pouches, vials, tools, and lockpicks. His left glove contains several retractable precision instruments, and a tiny brass mechanical hound usually pads at his side.
Mannerisms
He taps his thumb against each finger while calculating, labels every pouch and tool, and pauses before answering as though consulting an invisible checklist. When irritated, he begins tightening nearby screws or adjusting buckles.
Personality
Eldon is methodical, observant, and unfailingly precise. He speaks in calm, technical language and prefers written agreements to verbal assurances. Although he claims to value efficiency above sentiment, he is quietly protective of companions who respect their promises and he has a soft spot for broken machines, stray animals, and anyone abandoned by a dishonest employer.
Ideals
Order. Every problem has a structure, every structure has a weakness, and every weakness can be managed through discipline and preparation.
Bonds
He is determined to uncover the identity of the patron who commissioned the stolen military design and recover every missing component of his original mechanical hound.
Flaws
He is incapable of leaving a mechanism alone once he knows how it works, even when tampering with it is reckless or socially disastrous.
Quirks
Background
Eldon learned early that every lock was a conversation. As a young rock gnome in a crowded workshop district, he made a living repairing clockwork toys, watches, and household mechanisms. His talent for delicate mechanisms soon attracted the attention of a burglary crew who needed someone capable of opening sophisticated vaults without leaving visible damage. Eldon joined them, not out of greed, but because he was fascinated by the designs hidden inside wealthy merchants' security systems. He treated every heist as a technical challenge governed by preparation, timing, and clean execution. His career ended when the crew's leader betrayed them to avoid arrest, leaving Eldon to take responsibility for a burglary involving an experimental arcane laboratory. Eldon escaped custody with a half-finished mechanical hound and discovered that the laboratory's stolen design had been intended for military use. Now he works as an adventuring artificer, using his skills to recover dangerous devices, dismantle criminal enterprises, and determine exactly who ordered the original theft. He remains willing to bend laws that he considers inefficient, but he follows contracts, procedures, and carefully written promises with almost religious devotion.
