Appearance
Tecu Varga is a young mixed-skinned elf with a lean, athletic build, short curly black hair, and dark brown alert eyes. His face is expressive and plainly visible, usually set in a quietly defiant stare. He wears a long snow-white hunter's coat covered in careful repairs, with intricate woven patterns at the cuffs and hem, a small shoulder capelet, fitted sea-blue leather bracers, sturdy travel boots, and a pointed white leather tricorn-style hat. His golden recurve longbow is polished far more lovingly than the rest of his gear. Paired curved blades rest at his belt beside a small carved icy focus. He takes up little space in a room, standing near walls and exits, but his immaculate hat and over-maintained bow are noticed within moments.
Mannerisms
Tecu rolls an arrow slowly between his fingers whenever he is thinking. He checks the wind before answering difficult questions, smooths the edge of his hat when irritated, and speaks more softly when angry. He rarely sits with his back to an open room.
Personality
Quiet, observant, and stubbornly practical. Tecu notices damaged hinges, false trail signs, and who is being ignored in a conversation. He is more comfortable painting a detailed map of a place than describing his own feelings, but he has a dry sense of humor and a strong instinct to protect people who are being talked over.
Ideals
Useful truth. Knowledge should guide hands, protect lives, and remain accessible to the people who need it.
Bonds
I will find the names of everyone lost in the whiteout and restore them to the maps, even if the people who caused the disaster would rather forget them.
Flaws
When someone dismisses a local person's knowledge, I become reckless trying to prove the expert wrong. I also keep correcting maps that are technically accurate but morally dishonest.
Quirks
Background
Tecu was raised between two cultures that never quite agreed on what to call him. His elven mother mapped high forest passes for winter caravans, while his human father repaired survey instruments and painted boundary markers for villages that could not afford official cartographers. Tecu learned early that a painted line on a stone could decide who received firewood, who was allowed to hunt, and who was blamed when the snow buried a road. He became a patient observer, copying old maps by lamplight and walking every trail himself before trusting the ink. A scholarly expedition later hired him to document an ancient network of frozen waystones. The expedition leader treated local hunters as obstacles and ignored Tecu's warnings about a shifting storm pattern. When the camp vanished beneath an unnatural whiteout, Tecu survived by following blue sigils that appeared in the ice. He returned with damaged maps, a carved shard of the central waystone, and a conviction that knowledge is worthless if it remains safely shelved. Now he travels as a ranger, painter, and reluctant guide, using his art to preserve threatened places and his bow to make arrogant people listen before the weather does.
