Appearance
Donk is a towering, broad-shouldered goliath with slate-gray skin, a square jaw, and thick black hair bound into several short knots with copper rings. He wears a battered soldier’s harness over practical travel clothes, and his hands are permanently dusted with the faint white residue of whetstone grit. He smells noticeably of pine tar, iron, and strong mint tea, a combination he considers perfectly respectable. Before speaking, he draws a slow breath through his nose and clears his throat once, as if preparing to issue a battlefield command. His expression is calm, stern, and difficult to read, even when he is pleased.
Mannerisms
Donk pauses before speaking, inhales through his nose, and clears his throat once. He stands with his feet planted as though expecting a shove, keeps his back to walls when possible, and silently checks the exits whenever he enters a new room. When someone gives an inefficient order, he repeats it exactly, then executes it with painstaking precision.
Personality
Donk is disciplined, literal, and unexpectedly considerate. He speaks in short, formal statements and treats ordinary chores as if they were assignments requiring proper procedure. He dislikes unnecessary cruelty, loud boasting, and plans that depend on everyone being clever at the same time. Beneath his stern manner is a steady instinct to protect the smallest or least prepared person in the group.
Ideals
Duty. A promise is a structure. If everyone carries their part, even the weakest bridge can hold.
Bonds
The soldiers of his old unit are his family. He will cross almost any distance to recover a fallen comrade’s body, standard, or name.
Flaws
Donk obeys clear orders even when he privately doubts the person giving them. He is slow to forgive desertion, cowardice, or improvisation that endangers others, and he sometimes mistakes emotional honesty for insubordination.
Quirks
Background
Donk was raised among a highland goliath clan that measured adulthood by responsibility rather than age. His family served as wardens of a narrow mountain pass, where every traveler was counted, every supply cache inspected, and every winter route memorized. Donk inherited the patient discipline of that duty, along with the enormous strength expected of a goliath, but he never developed a taste for boasting. To him, strength exists to hold a line, carry the wounded, and make certain that an order is followed correctly. When a border war reached the pass, Donk joined the local army and became a shock trooper. His commanders quickly learned that his quiet nature made him unusually reliable. He did not charge because he was angry. He charged because the order had been given, the formation had opened, and someone had to close the distance. His battle rage emerged as a focused, physical force, less like wild fury and more like a mountain deciding to move. After the war, Donk left the army with his spear, shortbow, gaming dice, and a healer’s kit. He now travels as a soldier-for-hire and expedition guard, searching for a cause worthy of his remaining years and quietly testing whether loyalty is something earned by orders or by deeds.
