Appearance
Gizmo is a sturdy human man with clever hands, a neat but workshop-worn appearance, and a perpetual half-smudge of soot on one cheek. He wears scale mail fitted with small brass braces and pockets, a practical shield etched with tiny gears, and a belt crowded with tools, spools of wire, chalk, and spare springs. His eyes are bright and alert, usually fixed on whatever device is currently failing or whatever contraption he is about to improve.
Mannerisms
He speaks while thinking, often tapping a fingertip against his thumb like he is testing invisible gears. When excited, he crouches to examine objects from every angle, and he unconsciously straightens crooked tools, handles, and picture frames whenever he enters a room.
Personality
Patient, inventive, and gently persistent, Gizmo approaches every problem as though it were a puzzle waiting to be understood. He is kind without being sentimental, practical without being cold, and happiest when he can turn a dangerous mess into something useful. He prefers action to speeches, but he will stand his ground with quiet certainty when someone tries to exploit the weak or waste good craftsmanship.
Ideals
Improvement. Anything built by mortal hands can be made safer, kinder, and more useful with enough patience and care.
Bonds
He owes his guildmaster a debt of trust for shielding him after one of his early inventions caused a costly accident. He also cares deeply for the little brass guardian he built, treating it less like equipment and more like family.
Flaws
Gizmo cannot resist improving anything that catches his attention, even when a job would be safer if he simply left it alone. He sometimes overexplains his plans in technical detail, forgetting that not everyone finds springs and leverage inspiring. He also trusts machines a little faster than people, and that habit has embarrassed him more than once.
Quirks
Background
Gizmo was born in a crowded trade quarter where every doorway hid a workshop and every alley echoed with the sound of hammering. His family belonged to a respected makers' guild, but Gizmo was never content to simply repeat the old methods. While other apprentices learned to copy, measure, and polish, he was the one prying open broken locks to understand why they failed, or turning scrap brass into clockwork helpers that could carry nails, fetch tea, or warn of intruders. The guild tolerated his habits because his repairs were reliable, if unusually ornate, and because he could make a shattered mechanism useful again without asking for much more than leftovers and a chance to tinker.
