Appearance

Malice is a lean, dark-skinned drow woman with white hair cut bluntly at the jaw and one long braid tied with black thread. Her red eyes are narrow and watchful, with faint silver scars crossing her left cheek from an initiation punishment. She wears fitted studded leather beneath layered crimson, violet, and charcoal robes, arranged to conceal the armor's shape and several slim blades. A spider-shaped iron holy symbol hangs at her throat. Her movements are economical and quiet, except when she deliberately makes noise to draw an enemy's attention.

Mannerisms

Malice tilts her head slightly when evaluating a person, as if judging where a spider would anchor its first strand. She rarely sits with her back to a wall. When angered, she becomes quieter rather than louder, and she often ends prayers by touching two fingers to the spider emblem at her throat.

Personality

Malice is restrained, observant, and intensely devout. She speaks with the practical calm of someone accustomed to dangerous rooms and powerful people. She respects competence more than rank, but she is fascinated by hierarchy and constantly tests where others believe they stand. She can show surprising patience toward frightened or injured creatures, especially spiders, though that patience rarely extends to people who refuse to accept their place.

Ideals

Purpose. A person is only as valuable as the use they can be put to. I will become the sharpest instrument in Lolth's hand, even if nothing human remains in me.

Bonds

Lolth chose me when my house did not understand me. I will repay that choice by killing anyone who threatens her designs, especially those who claim to speak for her without earning the right.

Flaws

I mistake obedience for love and will accept needless cruelty from anyone I believe carries Lolth's authority. When challenged, I would rather make a dangerous enemy than admit uncertainty.

Quirks

She names individual spiders she meets and remembers them by markings.
She tests every doorway by flicking a pebble through it before entering.
She cleans her blades while reciting fragments of temple liturgy.
She dislikes open flames because they make webs visible too soon.

Background

Malice was born Aurelia Travra, a lesser daughter of House Travra in Menzoberranzan. From infancy, she was shaped for one purpose, to become an obedient priestess of Lolth. She learned the prayers, the punishments, the proper angle at which to kneel, and the names of every rival house worth fearing. Yet the temple's matrons found something wrong in her. Aurelia did not crave authority. She craved usefulness. She wanted to be the hand that closed around a throat, not the voice that ordered another hand to do it. During a bloody rite beneath a cavern web, a swarm of spiders descended upon her and refused to bite. Instead, they covered her body like living armor while a priestess's ceremonial blade split the altar between them. The temple declared that Lolth had chosen her, not for the robes of a priestess, but as a blade to be carried into the dark. Aurelia abandoned her birth name, her house, and every claim to an ordinary life. She became Malice. Since then, she has studied surface tales of samurai and reshaped them into the Way of the Black Widow, a discipline of hidden weapons, poisoned edges, sudden retreats, and beautiful violence. She believes Lolth is both goddess and mother, and that being used by her is the purest form of belonging.
