Appearance
Misla is a lean half-elf woman with warm brown skin, pointed ears, dark auburn hair cut to her jaw, and sharp gray-green eyes that seem to measure every exit in a room. She wears a weathered charcoal cloak whose clasp has been polished smooth by years of nervous handling. Her hands are narrow and quick, with ink-darkened fingertips, small calluses along the thumbs, and unusually clean nails maintained for delicate lockwork. A silver coin with a square hole hangs at her throat, its edge worn nearly flat from being rubbed whenever she is thinking.
Mannerisms
Misla rolls the square-holed coin across her knuckles while listening, then catches it without looking. She positions herself near walls, mirrors, or doorways, and rarely sits with her back exposed.
Personality
Clever, irreverent, and intensely observant, Misla treats conversation like a card game and prefers to reveal only the hand that benefits her. She is slow to trust but quick to defend people who are being exploited. Beneath her practiced cynicism is a restless desire to find somewhere she can stop watching the exits.
Ideals
Freedom. No authority, law, family, guild, or god has the right to own another person. Chains are chains, even when they are made of promises.
Bonds
She intends to discover what happened to her father and recover the ledger he vanished with, because it may reveal which powerful people ordered his disappearance.
Flaws
She assumes every kindness has a hidden price and is quick to betray someone first if she thinks betrayal is inevitable. When cornered, she becomes flippant and reckless rather than admit fear.
Quirks
Background
Misla grew up between two worlds and belonged fully to neither. Her elven mother taught her to read people through posture, silence, and the careful choice of words, while her human father taught her that a locked door was merely a question asked in metal. When her father disappeared after a failed burglary, Misla survived by carrying messages for smugglers and lifting purses in crowded markets. Her half-elven heritage made her useful in criminal circles, where she could pass as an outsider almost anywhere, but never quite invisible.
