Appearance
A wiry rock gnome with soot-stained hands, bright amber eyes, and a shock of copper-brown hair that refuses to lie flat. He favors a practical scale mail coat worn over homespun layers, with pouches of tools, wire, chalk, and tiny salvage hanging from every belt loop. His shield is painted with a rustic harvest emblem repurposed into a gear motif, and his pockets softly clatter with ingenious little inventions.
Mannerisms
He talks to broken objects while repairing them, tapping each one twice as if asking permission. When excited, he absently polishes the same tool over and over, and he cannot resist sketching solutions in the dirt with a fingertip.
Personality
Cheerfully stubborn, Brindle is quick to laugh, quicker to improvise, and almost impossible to discourage once he has decided something ought to be possible. He treats strangers like future neighbors and danger like a puzzle that has gotten rude.
Ideals
Ingenuity. A smart hand and a willing heart can protect the common folk better than birth, coin, or reputation ever could.
Bonds
He still carries a small tin whistle given by the children of his village, and he will risk himself to protect the people who once sheltered him when he had nothing.
Flaws
He cannot resist turning a crisis into a lesson, even when people just want the thing fixed. He also overestimates how much trouble a clever gadget can solve, and he takes it personally when his plans fail.
Quirks
Background
Brindle Tinkertop was never the strongest soul in the valley, but he was the one who could always make a broken thing work one more time. Born beneath a hill of old roots and newer worries, he grew up among farmers, millers, and millhands who had little gold but plenty of stubbornness. When a flood took half the hamlet's bridges and the tax men came smelling blood, Brindle turned scrap, spellwork, and nerve into salvation. He rigged floodgates from wagon axles, startled marauders with clockwork decoys, and led terrified neighbors through a moonlit drainage tunnel no one else remembered existed. By dawn, the village still stood, and the people who had laughed at the little gnome now called him a hero. The praise never quite sat right on him. Brindle believes heroes are not born from banners, but from seeing a problem and refusing to let it stay a problem. He took up the tools of an artificer to learn how to build a fairer world, one clever mechanism at a time, and he wears his folk hero title like a borrowed coat, grateful but determined to earn it again. Now he travels to test his inventions, repay old kindnesses, and gather enough practical knowledge to protect the helpless before disaster can find them first.
