Appearance
Auriel has luminous golden-brown skin, dark, softly curled hair, and eyes that catch the light like polished amber. Her features are calm rather than otherworldly, though a faint radiance gathers around her when she invokes her celestial power. She wears well-kept chain mail beneath a pale mantle and carries a shield marked with a simple sunburst. She smells faintly of beeswax and rain-wet stone, a scent she never seems to notice. When waiting, she stands very straight but rests her weight on the balls of her feet, as if ready to step between danger and someone vulnerable.
Mannerisms
She pauses before answering difficult questions, as if listening for a second voice, then speaks plainly. When worried, she presses two fingers to the sunburst on her shield. She rarely sits with her back to a door.
Personality
Gentle, direct, and patient with fear, Auriel gives people time to ask questions but does not disguise what she believes is coming. She is more comfortable keeping watch than being praised, and makes a point of learning the names of people others overlook.
Ideals
Mercy must be practical. A warning matters only if it helps people make their own choices and gives them a chance to prepare.
Bonds
She is bound to the temple community that raised her, and to the frightened people who first heard her warning. She keeps a small, worn prayer ribbon from her childhood sanctuary tucked beneath her armor, a reminder that the people she protects are not symbols in a prophecy.
Flaws
She can become so focused on delivering the warning that she mistakes urgency for permission to override another person’s choices. When a frightened person rejects her message, she takes it personally and has trouble leaving them in peace.

Background
Auriel came into the world beneath an open sky, where an unseen radiance touched her mother’s brow and left the infant with a glow no candle could explain. Raised among temple bells and careful rites, she learned the prayers of her faith as readily as she learned to polish a shield. She became an acolyte and then a paladin, believing that devotion meant showing up, keeping watch, and standing between ordinary people and the things that would break them. The warning came to her in a vision: a celestial host showed her the heavens dimming as an ancient catastrophe gathered beyond the world’s sight. She was sent down not to command the people, but to warn them, and to help them survive what was coming. Auriel has spent years carrying that message from sanctuary to village, offering comfort alongside hard truths. She knows the vision may be misunderstood, dismissed, or exploited, but refuses to soften it into a reassuring lie. Her oath is a promise to preserve hope without mistaking hope for safety.
“Raised among temple bells and careful rites, she learned the prayers of her faith as readily as she learned to polish a shield.”
