Appearance
Lucky Roo is a broad-shouldered human with sun-browned skin, a round, expressive face, and thick dark hair usually tied back with a faded red ribbon. Their eyes are bright hazel, their nose has been broken twice, and a small brass bell is sewn into one boot. They favor colorful travel clothes beneath a battered leather harness, decorated with scraps of painted canvas from old roadside performances. Their greataxe is nicknamed Momo and has tiny brass charms tied around the haft.
Mannerisms
Lucky Roo speaks with their whole body, punctuating stories with sweeping gestures, sudden crouches, and theatrical gasps. They clap someone on the shoulder when greeting them, whistle before entering unfamiliar rooms, and announce the names of their weapons as if introducing performers on a stage.
Personality
Boisterous, affectionate, and impossible to discourage, Lucky Roo treats every dangerous expedition as a story that has not yet reached its funniest part. They collect strangers quickly, challenge powerful people to harmless contests, and sincerely believe that a shared meal can solve most arguments. Beneath the laughter is a fiercely protective traveler who notices when someone has been left out of the circle.
Ideals
Joy. A hard life is no excuse for making the world harder for everyone else. If I can make someone laugh, feel safe, or believe tomorrow might be better, then I have done something worthwhile.
Bonds
The Rolling Lanterns are my family, and I will rebuild their stage wherever I go. I also owe my life to Tamu, the troupe's vanished bear, and refuse to believe they are truly gone.
Flaws
I mistake confidence for competence, and I cannot resist proving myself when someone doubts me. I also make reckless promises before asking what they will cost.
Quirks
Background
Lucky Roo was born among the wagons of the Rolling Lanterns, a traveling troupe that crossed the frontier with puppets, acrobats, musicians, and one famously stubborn bear. Their parents expected them to become a tumbler, but Lucky had the grace of a falling chair. What they lacked in balance, they made up for with tremendous enthusiasm, turning every failed flip into a feat of comic strength. Audiences adored them, especially after Lucky began ending performances by lifting the troupe's largest wagon while shouting improvised blessings to whatever god happened to be listening. The troupe's fortune changed when a bridge collapsed during a spring flood. Lucky held a wagon above the churning water long enough for everyone to escape, but the old bear, Tamu, was swept away. In the silence afterward, Lucky heard voices in the river, not words exactly, but the impression of many watchful ancestors urging them to keep moving. Since then, Lucky has carried a handful of painted wooden tokens representing the troupe's dead and missing, speaking to them before every dangerous deed. They adventure to earn enough coin to rebuild the Rolling Lanterns, search for Tamu, and prove that luck is not something that happens to a person. It is something a person shares.
