Appearance
A slender, medium-height High Elf with bronze-brown skin, straight black hair cut just below the jaw, and long pointed ears decorated with small copper prayer rings. Their most noticeable feature is the way they look at a room before looking at a person, quietly counting doors, windows, lamps, and possible exits. Their voice is low and dry, with a brief intake of breath before difficult names or dangerous spells. They wear layered charcoal and rust-colored robes reinforced with narrow strips of leather, and their spellbook is bound in dark red cloth with a copper clasp.
Mannerisms
Before answering, Talu takes a quiet breath through the nose and scans the room from left to right. They speak in short, exact sentences, tap the copper clasp of their spellbook when thinking, and pronounce the names of the dead as carefully as the names of kings.
Personality
Talu is observant, restrained, and quietly compassionate. They prefer precise questions to dramatic speeches and often solve practical problems before anyone realizes there was danger. Their patience is deep with frightened people and very limited with arrogant scholars who treat knowledge as property.
Ideals
Knowledge is a form of shelter. What is understood can be guarded, taught, and used to keep the vulnerable from being harmed again.
Bonds
The Shrine of the First Ember sheltered Talu when raiders burned the lower villages. Talu carries its surviving prayer book and has sworn to restore the shrine, protect its people, and recover the names of everyone who vanished in the attack.
Flaws
Talu treats uncertainty as a personal failure and can become cold or controlling when events refuse to follow a pattern. They are reluctant to destroy written knowledge, even when the text is dangerous, and they sometimes protect a book more fiercely than the people standing beside them.
Quirks
Background
Talu was raised at the Shrine of the First Ember, a remote elven sanctuary built into the red cliffs above a mountain pass. The shrine served travelers, shepherds, and miners alike, and its priests taught that every flame was both a physical thing and a question asked of the world. Talu began as a caretaker, copying prayers, repairing oil lamps, and recording the names of the dead. Their talent for noticing patterns in soot, smoke, and candlelight led an elderly priest to place a spellbook in their hands. Talu discovered that the same discipline used to preserve a sacred rite could also shape fire, force, and light.
