Appearance
Olluco is a broad-shouldered goliath with slate-gray skin, pale blue eyes, and a long black braid threaded with three dull brass rings. A white scar crosses his left cheek, and old campaign tattoos disappear beneath the worn leather of his armor. He carries himself with careful economy, as though every movement has been measured against the cost of failure.
Mannerisms
He pauses before answering simple questions, as though checking an invisible tactical map. He sits with his back to stone, never to an open room, and counts exits whenever he enters a building. In conversation, he rarely says someone is dead. He says they are no longer waiting.
Personality
Quiet, observant, and unexpectedly considerate. Olluco repairs broken tools without being asked, leaves food where hungry travelers will find it, and distrusts anyone who calls themselves a hero. He prefers practical questions to emotional ones, but his silence is often a form of careful attention rather than indifference.
Ideals
Responsibility. A person's worth is measured by what they do for those who depend on them, not by songs, medals, or victory.
Bonds
The names of the soldiers lost at Red Cairn are carved into a flat stone hidden beneath Olluco's sleeping mat. He will risk anything to protect the families of those who died under his command.
Flaws
Olluco cannot forgive himself for surviving Red Cairn. When someone praises his courage, he becomes cold or hostile, and when a plan begins to resemble the battle that ruined him, he may abandon sound judgment just to avoid making the same kind of decision again.
Quirks
Background
Olluco served as a standard-bearer and shock fighter in the Stonewatch Cohort, a mixed company that guarded mountain passes and escorted refugees through winter country. His size made him a natural shield for frightened civilians, while his patience made him a better battlefield commander than anyone expected. He believed a hero was not the loudest warrior, but the one who remained standing when everyone else needed him to stand. That belief ended at the Battle of Red Cairn. Olluco urged the cohort to hold a narrow bridge while the main force withdrew, certain that courage and discipline would buy enough time. The enemy had prepared a second crossing upstream. His decision trapped half the cohort, including his younger lieutenant and several soldiers who had trusted his judgment. Olluco survived, but the banner was lost, the retreat became a rout, and the survivors called him brave in the same voices they used to avoid saying he had been wrong. He abandoned the army and disappeared into a high valley, living as a hermit among wind-carved stones. Years alone have not made him peaceful. They have merely taught him to bury his anger beneath chores, silence, and a refusal to call himself a hero. When violence comes, however, the old battlefield still wakes inside him, and his rage is less a roar than a door being opened.
