Appearance
Meren is a lean, long-limbed air genasi man with sea-glass skin that shifts subtly between pale blue and silver. His dark hair floats as though underwater whenever his emotions rise, and faint wisps of vapor curl from his ears and collar. His eyes are storm-gray with tiny flashes of white lightning in the irises. He dresses in a weathered navy coat, loose sailor's trousers, and a copper-buckled sash, with a crystal suspended at his throat as an arcane focus.
Mannerisms
Meren speaks softly and pauses to listen whenever the wind changes. He often tilts his head as though hearing a distant voice, and he instinctively checks knots, windows, and exits whenever he enters a room.
Personality
Meren is gentle, observant, and quietly humorous, with the patience of someone accustomed to long watches at sea. He treats strangers like possible future shipmates and is slow to judge unusual behavior. Beneath his calm manner is a fierce, sudden temper that arrives like a squall and passes just as quickly.
Ideals
Freedom. No captain, monarch, or god has the right to own another person's course through life.
Bonds
The crew of the Dawn Gull raised me when no one else would. I will find the ship's lost bell and return it to the harbor where she was built.
Flaws
I mistake stubbornness for loyalty and would rather risk my life than admit I misjudged someone. I also become reckless when anyone insults the crew or the sea.
Quirks
Background
Meren Tömör was born during a squall that tore the sails from three ships in the harbor of Vasker Reach. His mother, a human navigator, survived the wreck, but the ship's captain claimed the child was an omen and left him with the deckhands. Meren grew up among salt-stained ropes, bilgewater, and shouted orders, learning to read currents before he could read letters. The sea accepted him more readily than most people did. When frightened or angry, the air around him twisted into sudden gusts, and lantern flames bent toward his breathing.
