Appearance
Asha Naminsiyesh is a tall bronze dragonborn with a wiry, scholarly build and the restless posture of someone who is always one observation away from abandoning a conversation to investigate something more interesting. Her metallic scales range from weathered copper along her brow and shoulders to deep bronze across her limbs, each one catching the light in uneven flashes like old coins beneath water. Fine scars and faint scorch marks interrupt the otherwise orderly pattern, souvenirs of magical accidents, experiments, and siblings who failed to move quickly enough. A narrow line of darker scales runs from her throat to the center of her chest, glowing faintly whenever her temper or magic rises. Her face is angular and expressive, with keen amber eyes that rarely remain fixed on the person speaking when there is a loose floorboard, concealed door, unusual shadow, or suspiciously precise statement nearby. Small swept-back horns frame her head, one chipped near the tip and both fitted with several tiny metal rings engraved with notes only Asha can decipher. Her long tail is marked with irregular bands of blue-green patina, and it has an irritating habit of tapping against furniture whenever she is thinking. Asha dresses for travel, research, and the occasional escape from an offended authority. She favors layered charcoal robes beneath a weather-stained blue-gray mantle, reinforced at the seams with bronze thread and patched in places where spells have gone badly. A collection of pouches, notebooks, glass vials, and improvised measuring instruments hangs from her belt. Ink stains mark her claws, while one finger is usually wrapped in fresh bandages. Her hair is kept short around the sides and gathered into a narrow braided crest behind her horns, threaded with scraps of parchment bearing unfinished theories. Around her neck hangs a plain iron charm from Aunt Kozxelia, deliberately unimpressive except for the tiny sparks that crawl across its surface when Asha is near something genuinely mysterious.
Mannerisms
Asha has a habit of tilting her head whenever someone makes a confident claim, as though examining it for structural weakness. She drums one claw against nearby surfaces while thinking, usually in an irregular rhythm that becomes faster when a mystery is close to yielding. Her eyes constantly roam across rooms, lingering on hinges, scorch marks, loose stones, nervous hands, and anything else that might contradict the obvious explanation. When amused, she gives a brief, humorless snort instead of laughing, though the faint crackle of static along her horns tends to betray genuine delight. She often mutters observations under her breath, then denies having spoken if anyone asks her to repeat them. Asha has a tendency to collect fragments of evidence in her pockets, including bits of wire, marked pebbles, broken seals, scraps of parchment, and objects that other people insist are completely irrelevant. She gestures with two fingers when correcting someone, as if editing an invisible text. When confronted with authority, she becomes unnervingly polite, addressing officials by their full titles while asking questions designed to expose precisely how little they know. She rarely sits with her back to a door and instinctively positions herself where she can see both the exits and the hands of everyone nearby. If embarrassed, she becomes intensely interested in adjusting her clothing, polishing a scale, or inspecting her spell components. Her magic sometimes answers her moods before her expression does, causing nearby lights to flicker, sparks to skip between her claws, or faint static to raise the hair on another person's arms. She keeps meticulous notes, but fills the margins with skeptical annotations, alternate theories, and tiny diagrams that gradually become more elaborate than the original text. When someone admits uncertainty, Asha's expression softens almost imperceptibly, and she gives them her full attention. When someone pretends certainty, she smiles like she has just discovered a locked door and already knows where to find the key.
Personality
Asha is quick-minded, sharp-tongued, and constitutionally incapable of leaving a mystery alone. She approaches every rule as a hypothesis and every authority as a particularly overconfident witness, especially when they rely on lineage, tradition, or impressive titles instead of evidence. Her humor is dry, her patience is selective, and her curiosity is practically hazardous. She enjoys provoking pompous people into revealing the limits of their knowledge, though she is far less cruel to those who admit ignorance than to those who pretend certainty. Asha is observant to the point of distraction, noticing small inconsistencies, concealed emotions, and useful details that others dismiss. She rarely gives grand declarations of loyalty, but remembers kindness with startling permanence and repays it when least expected. Beneath her irreverence is a stubbornly disciplined scholar who tests, records, and revises her theories late into the night. She is not afraid of being different. She is afraid of accepting an answer merely because everyone else has agreed to stop asking questions.
Ideals
Truth is not made reliable by age, rank, bloodline, or the number of people repeating it. Every claim deserves examination, every rule deserves testing, and every mystery deserves the courtesy of being taken seriously. Asha would rather be proven wrong through honest inquiry than be praised for accepting a comfortable lie.
Bonds
Asha keeps a private ledger of every kindness Aunt Kozxelia has shown her, including the ones Kozxelia insists never happened. She intends to repay the old sorcerer properly, though her definition of properly may involve dismantling several ancient wards and proving that one of Kozxelia's treasured theories is wrong. The Naminsiyesh family remains both an insult and an unfinished experiment in Asha's mind. She refuses to let her parents or twenty-nine siblings reduce her magic to an embarrassment, but she secretly hopes to discover something so undeniable about sorcery that even the family's most arrogant scholars will be forced to revise their understanding. Asha feels an inconvenient protectiveness toward anyone whose gifts are dismissed as improper, unstable, or beneath respectable study. She will mock their mistakes, criticize their technique, and then remain awake all night searching for the person who caused them to doubt themselves. She has become determined to uncover the origin of the strange lights, shocks, and other manifestations that surrounded her childhood. Asha suspects her magic is connected to something older than her bloodline, and she will follow that suspicion into forbidden archives, hostile ruins, or conversations with beings who use the word impossible too confidently. Asha distrusts institutions that demand obedience before offering evidence, especially the authorities of the Draknaar Theocracy. Still, she cannot entirely dismiss the possibility that some hidden truth lies beneath its doctrines, and she would rather expose a genuine danger than merely enjoy being proven correct. Though she would deny it if asked, Asha wants one person who understands that her curiosity is not a defect to be managed. Until she finds them, she has decided that loyalty is best demonstrated indirectly, through inconvenient rescues, carefully falsified records, and the occasional spell cast from behind a locked door.
Flaws
Asha cannot resist correcting confident people, even when the correction is irrelevant, tactless, or likely to get everyone eaten. She treats secrecy as an invitation to investigate and authority as evidence that someone has something worth hiding. Her curiosity routinely outruns her caution, especially when magic behaves in a way she has never documented. She is prone to mistaking emotional distance for intellectual independence, dismissing help until she has made the problem considerably worse. Asha keeps meticulous records of her own mistakes, but is much less generous when recording the mistakes of others. Family comparisons have left her with a deep, inconvenient need to prove that her magic is not merely different, but superior. When embarrassed, frightened, or uncertain, she becomes sharper and more sarcastic instead of admitting vulnerability. She has a talent for finding loopholes in rules and an almost pathological inability to leave them unused.
Quirks
Background
The Naminsiyesh name is not insignificant in the Draknaar Theocracy. As far as wizarding families go, they are the elite. From the time Ashaviskarra Namori Catharina Chachiuhttique Ehecatl Naminsiyesh was expected to begin her studies she was already viewed as peculiar. It wasn't that she didn't posess the expected magical potential. She obviously had magic, but it was…odd magic. Dancing lights followed her wherever she went. She was perpetually zapping one of her twenty-nine unsuspecting siblings with shocks of enery when they were least suspecting it. The problem, at least according to her parents and older siblings, was that her magic didn't follow the rules. Asha would learn spells without a moment of study, and incantations that she pored over for hours might as well have been written in Celestial for all she could understand of them. It wasn't long before whispers started to follow her wherever she went, hidden behind hands and murmured in hushed voices, all containing the same dreaded word: sorcerer. Not that there was anything wrong with sorcerers, she overheard her mother say one day, it was only that they were the premiere wizarding bloodline in the theocracy, and what would people think? Asha, not particularly concerned with what her mother's friends thought of her, promptly set the curtains on fire and then fled to her room, where she claimed she'd been studying all afternoon when questioned. For a while everything held its course; Asha studied with her brothers and sisters, the ones not old enough yet to be away at wizarding collegea anyway, and learned how to cast very few of the spells she studied and more than plenty that she did not. But eventually, things—as they are wont to do—came to a breaking point. Asha didn't know if it was lightning strike she called down on an annoying neighbor (an accident) or the stream of acid she sprayed across her sister's homework (an on purpose), but either way, it was soon decided that she must be sent to stay with Aunt Kozxelia. Asha hadn't even known she had an Aunt Kozxelia until the decision had been made, but apparently she was her father's great-great-great aunt, ancient, constantly disgruntled, and, of the most interest to Asha, an accomplished sorcerer. She lived near a village that housed a training ground for young persons of inate magical ability, and it seemed to everyone involved to be the perfect solution. Asha, being brave, brash, and truly, terribly tired of being compared to her twenty-nine perfect paragon of wizardry siblings, was happy to pack up her things and board the coach to Khar Veld. Things certainly couldn't be any worse for her there.
