Appearance
Gib is a lean male tabaxi with tawny-gold fur, dark russet stripes, and bright amber eyes. He wears a flamboyant midnight-blue performer’s coat trimmed with copper thread, soft boots suited for climbing, and a belt hung with tiny bells that he insists are perfectly tuned. His long tail curls around his ankles when he is thinking. His voice begins with a soft, questioning purr before each dramatic declaration, and he habitually adjusts the red ribbon tied around one ear whenever he is nervous or excited.
Mannerisms
Before speaking, Gib pauses as if waiting for an audience to settle, then gives a quiet purring throat-clear. He constantly adjusts the red ribbon around one ear, taps rhythms against his thigh, and punctuates important statements with small flourishes of his claws.
Personality
Gib is theatrical, quick-witted, and relentlessly curious. He treats every conversation as a duet and every danger as a scene that can be improved with timing. Despite his playful arrogance, he notices frightened people quickly and instinctively tries to make them laugh or feel included.
Ideals
Wonder belongs to everyone. A little courage, a little laughter, and a spark of magic can make even the darkest life feel larger.
Bonds
The old traveling troupe is Gib’s family, and he will risk almost anything to protect its members and restore their ruined theater wagon. He also keeps a cracked brass stage bell from his first performance and refuses to let anyone throw it away.
Flaws
Gib cannot resist turning a serious moment into a performance, even when silence would be wiser. He is easily baited by anyone who dismisses entertainers as fools, and he sometimes promises more than he can safely deliver because he hates disappointing an audience.
Quirks
Background
Gib was raised among a traveling troupe of musicians, tumblers, puppeteers, and storytellers who moved from village fairs to wealthy city theaters. As a young tabaxi, he learned that an audience could be won with a well-timed pause, a perfectly placed grin, or one impossible leap from a balcony rail. He became the troupe’s quick-handed stage magician, combining acrobatics with minor spells that made lantern flames dance, cards vanish, and painted dragons briefly coil through the air. His magic first erupted during a performance when a heckler overturned a brazier near the troupe’s canvas pavilion. Fear and fury twisted the flames into a roaring draconic shape, sending the crowd fleeing but leaving the troupe unharmed. Gib’s talent was later traced to a distant draconic ancestor, and he began studying sorcery with the same theatrical discipline he applied to music and juggling. Now he adventures to find grander stages, stranger stories, and enough money to rebuild the troupe’s burned theater wagon. Beneath his showmanship is a sincere belief that wonder belongs to everyone, especially those who have been told they are too poor, strange, or frightened to reach for it.
