Appearance
Aurelia is a tall, severe drow woman with obsidian skin, silver-white hair braided with tiny spider-shaped clasps, and vivid violet eyes. Her angular face bears a thin ritual scar across one cheek, received during her first public interrogation in House Malice. She wears blackened chain mail beneath a high-collared noble mantle, both embroidered with subtle spiderweb patterns. A silver holy symbol of Lolth hangs at her throat, and her gauntleted hands are stained with ink, incense ash, and sometimes blood.
Mannerisms
Aurelia speaks in a quiet, measured voice, even while delivering threats. She pauses before answering questions as though listening for a distant spider’s approval. When someone lies, she tilts her head slightly and smiles without warmth. She addresses servants by name only after they have proven useful.
Personality
Aurelia is intensely observant, formal, and unnervingly patient. She remembers every slight, every contradiction, and every person who avoided meeting her eyes. She treats conversation as an interrogation disguised as etiquette, and she is most comfortable when everyone around her is afraid of saying the wrong thing. Despite her cruelty, she possesses genuine discipline and rarely acts from uncontrolled anger. Her zealotry is colder than rage, resembling devotion sharpened into a legal code.
Ideals
Order. Every creature has a place in the web, and disobedience must be crushed before it spreads. The Spider Queen’s hierarchy is cruel because the world itself is cruel, and I will impose that hierarchy wherever I go.
Bonds
House Malice is my web, and I will not allow any strand of it to be cut without discovering who pulled it. My younger sister is the one person whose survival I value above my own advancement, though I would deny this even under torture.
Flaws
I cannot leave a mystery unresolved, even when solving it is strategically foolish. I mistake hesitation for guilt, mercy for weakness, and any challenge to my authority for a personal attack from Lolth.
Quirks
Background
Aurelia Malice was born beneath the hanging towers of House Malice, the first-born daughter of a family that survived not through strength alone, but through a meticulous understanding of guilt, betrayal, and divine favor. From infancy, she was taught that Lolth did not reward kindness or loyalty. She rewarded those who recognized weakness quickly and punished it without hesitation. Aurelia embraced this lesson with terrifying sincerity. While other children competed for tutors, lovers, and poisons, she devoted herself to cataloging her family’s enemies and studying the signs by which the Spider Queen revealed her displeasure. Her path to becoming an inquisitor began when a favored cousin was accused of heresy. Aurelia was ordered to conduct the questioning, expecting a ceremonial humiliation. Instead, she discovered evidence that the cousin had been secretly corresponding with surface elves. Aurelia exposed the conspiracy, but the revelation implicated one of her own instructors. Rather than conceal the treason, she delivered the instructor to the priestesses of Lolth, earning both praise and enemies within her house. The experience taught her that truth is not sacred because it is just. Truth is sacred because it gives the powerful a blade. Now she travels as House Malice’s sanctioned investigator, hunting apostates, deserters, escaped slaves, and anyone whose disobedience might threaten the order Lolth has decreed.
