Appearance
Hail is a sturdy, broad-shouldered human with warm brown skin, closely cropped black hair, and pale gray eyes that seem to reflect candlelight. Their left forearm bears a series of tiny burn scars from years spent working metal at the forge. Hail wears well-maintained chain mail beneath a soot-darkened blue tabard marked with the symbol of a benevolent forge deity. A heavy smith's hammer hangs at their belt beside a holy symbol fashioned from folded iron.
Mannerisms
Hail rubs their thumb across the edge of their iron holy symbol whenever they are thinking. They inspect doors, tools, weapons, and armor with a craftsperson's eye, often commenting on how they could be repaired. When angry, they become unusually quiet and begin organizing nearby objects into precise rows.
Personality
Hail is calm, attentive, and practical. They speak to strangers with the same focused courtesy they offer a customer at the forge, asking precise questions and remembering small details. They prefer useful action over dramatic speeches, but their quiet conviction becomes formidable when someone vulnerable is threatened.
Ideals
Restoration. Nothing and no one is truly worthless. With patience, skill, and compassion, broken things can become strong again.
Bonds
The old guild forge is still Hail's home in their heart. They have sworn to return one day, clear the names of honest guild members who were framed by corrupt leaders, and rebuild the workshop as a refuge for apprentices and laborers.
Flaws
Hail cannot easily refuse a request for help, even when doing so places the entire party at risk. They are also quietly judgmental of people who waste useful materials, break promises, or treat workers as disposable.
Quirks
Background
Hail was raised in a family of metalworkers whose forge stood at the center of a small human settlement. They learned early that a useful object was more than its materials. A plowshare meant a harvest, a nail meant a roof, and a finely balanced tool could spare someone years of pain. Hail became known as a patient craftsperson who listened carefully to customers, remembered the names of apprentices, and repaired broken things even when no payment was offered. Their faith began after a warehouse fire consumed much of the guild quarter. Hail entered the burning building to rescue a trapped child and found, amid the flames, a vision of sacred light shining through the smoke. They emerged carrying the child and a half-melted iron icon. Since then, Hail has served a deity of healing, protection, and honest labor, believing that mending a wounded body and mending a broken community are forms of the same sacred craft. When guild corruption forced them to leave their hometown, Hail took up the road as an itinerant cleric, determined to protect workers, expose exploitation, and restore what others have abandoned.
“They learned early that a useful object was more than its materials.”
