Appearance

Malice is a statuesque drow woman with obsidian skin, silver-white hair cut to her jaw, and vivid violet eyes that rarely blink. A thin scar crosses her lower lip, deliberately left unhealed as a reminder of the name she abandoned. She wears fitted chain mail beneath layered crimson, indigo, and black robes, with spider-silk cords binding the sleeves close to her arms. Her longsword is curved and lacquered black, its guard shaped like a hunting spider, while several slim knives are concealed throughout her clothing.

Mannerisms

Malice pauses before answering questions, as though arranging invisible pieces on a game board. When she is displeased, she smooths the left sleeve of her robe three times. She addresses strangers by rank or function before learning their names.

Personality

Malice is poised, observant, and unnervingly patient. She speaks softly because she expects others to listen, and she treats every conversation as reconnaissance. Beneath her practiced composure is a fierce hunger to define herself on her own terms. She is fascinated by surface samurai traditions, though she understands them through drow pragmatism, replacing honorable combat with preparation, deception, and decisive violence.

Ideals

Control. The battlefield belongs to the one who dictates what the enemy believes is happening. Honor is useful only when it serves the victor.

Bonds

A hidden fragment of House Travra's signet is sewn into the lining of Malice's robe. She means to recover the full signet one day, not to reclaim her house, but to prove that its bloodline produced the weapon that surpassed it.

Flaws

Malice cannot resist humiliating an enemy who has underestimated her, even when retreat would be wiser. She also assumes every kindness conceals a bargain, and she would rather suffer than admit she needs help.

Quirks

She gives every weapon a personal name, but refuses to name her sword until it has drawn blood in battle.
She leaves a tiny black thread tied around the wrist of anyone she considers temporarily under her protection.
She collects surface descriptions of samurai armor and quietly alters them to include hidden compartments.
She sleeps with one hand resting on a concealed dagger.
She never steps directly over a spider, even when doing so would be more convenient.

Background

Malice was born Aurelia Travra, the second daughter of House Travra in Menzoberranzan. From infancy, her future seemed fixed. She would learn the liturgies of Lolth, master the cruel etiquette of the noble houses, and eventually earn the right to command lesser drow in the Spider Queen's name. She excelled at ceremonial combat but showed little talent for the patient cruelty expected of a priestess. Her instructors called her insolent. Her mother called her unfinished.
