Appearance
Nethelia is a lean, weather-hardened tiefling woman with deep crimson skin, swept-back black horns, pale gold eyes, and long dark hair usually braided with bits of sea glass and polar-bear fur. Her tail is scarred near the tip from years of shipboard fights. She wears practical leather armor beneath a weather-stained green cloak, carries a wooden shield marked with claw scratches, and keeps a curved sickle at her belt. Her hands are calloused from rigging, knives, and years of surviving on the sea.
Mannerisms
Nethelia frequently tests the edge of her sickle with one thumb while thinking. She pauses before entering any room, listening for movement and smelling the air. When angry, she speaks with unnerving calm and addresses people by their full names. She sleeps lightly, keeps her boots on, and always faces the nearest exit.
Personality
Nethelia is watchful, disciplined, and difficult to surprise. She speaks little unless she has something useful to say, but she notices every weakness in a room and every lie in a conversation. Beneath her controlled exterior is a deeply wounded survivor who wants to believe that violence can be given rules. She protects strays, abandoned children, and injured animals with an intensity that embarrasses her.
Ideals
Order. The world is cruel because people abandon their duties. Every debt must be paid, every betrayal answered, and every stolen thing returned to its rightful place.
Bonds
She carries the gang's first stolen compass and intends to return it to the one former crewmate who treated her as family. She is also bound to the frozen wilderness where her parents died, and refuses to let that place be exploited or desecrated.
Flaws
Nethelia confuses control with justice. Once she decides someone is guilty, she becomes cold, relentless, and unwilling to hear excuses. She also steals small, seemingly worthless objects whenever she is anxious, then hides them without remembering where they came from.
Quirks
Background
Nethelia was orphaned in a brutal border dispute with a polar-bear clan whose territory pressed against her people's hunting grounds. During the raid that destroyed her family, she killed the clan leader's mate in panic and fury, then watched the clan's surviving warriors retaliate by killing her parents. She escaped into the snow, carrying only a stolen knife and the memory of white fur disappearing into the storm. For years afterward, she dreamed of the dead woman's face beneath the ice and heard phantom paws following her through the dark. A rough ocean-going gang found Nethelia half-frozen near a coastal wreck and took her in. They taught her to climb rigging, open locks, move silently, and take whatever could not be defended. Their creed was simple, ownership belonged to whoever had the strength to claim it. Nethelia became an excellent burglar and scout, but the sea never quieted the ghosts of her childhood. Eventually, she abandoned the gang and began a solitary journey inland, seeking the polar-bear clan that ruined her life. Along the way, she discovered that the wild answered her anger. Vines coiled around her enemies, birds carried warnings to her camp, and the winter wind seemed to recognize her name. Now she travels as a druid and reluctant avenger, determined to find the truth beneath the old bloodshed and decide, by her own strict judgment, who deserves justice.
“She escaped into the snow, carrying only a stolen knife and the memory of white fur disappearing into the storm.”
