Appearance

Keres is a tall High Elf with warm brown skin, silver-blond hair braided with narrow green cords, and calm gray-green eyes. Her chain shirt is carefully maintained but visibly repaired with mismatched rings, while her cream-colored priestly robe is slightly too short at the wrists. She keeps one over-cared-for possession, a small wooden prayer tablet polished smooth by years of handling. Before she speaks, she takes a quiet breath through her nose and briefly presses her thumb to the tablet.

Mannerisms

Keres pauses before answering difficult questions, takes one measured breath, and touches her wooden prayer tablet with her thumb. When nervous, she silently counts the syllables of nearby prayers. She writes notes in extremely small, precise lettering and corrects damaged books before attending to her own equipment.

Personality

Keres is attentive, composed, and unfailingly courteous, even when dealing with enemies. She notices small acts of kindness and remembers the names of servants, ferrymen, children, and guards long after others have forgotten them. Her kindness is practical rather than sentimental. She mends clothing, labels medicine, and asks direct questions when someone is in pain.

Ideals

Mercy. Sacred power is not a possession to be guarded. It is a responsibility to be placed wherever suffering is greatest.

Bonds

The woodland shrine that raised her is threatened by a spreading blight, and Keres is determined to find its source before the sacred grove becomes silent.

Flaws

Keres mistakes patience for wisdom and can wait too long before confronting cruelty. She is quietly judgmental toward people who abandon traditions without understanding them, yet she is easily manipulated by anyone who convincingly claims to be protecting the vulnerable.

Quirks

Keeps a list of every person she has healed, including the date and what comfort they preferred.
Refuses to discard cracked pottery until she has tried to repair it.
Greets animals before greeting their owners.
Uses different colored threads to mark pages in her prayer book according to the kind of mercy they describe.

Background

Keres Elassidir was raised in a woodland shrine where generations of elves had entrusted their dead, their disputes, and their unanswered questions to the temple priests. As an acolyte, she learned to copy prayers by hand, prepare offerings, tend the sick, and listen without interrupting. She became especially devoted to the quiet work of preservation, believing that mercy was often less about grand miracles and more about staying beside someone until dawn. Her first divine magic appeared while she was repairing a cracked funerary tablet, when the broken wood joined beneath her fingers and a dying pilgrim drew a full breath again. When a fever swept through the surrounding villages, Keres left the shrine with the blessing of her elders to carry healing beyond its secluded borders. She still serves the ideals of her temple, but she has become less certain that wisdom belongs only behind sacred walls. Her long elven life has taught her patience, while the short lives of the people she meets have taught her urgency. She travels with a healer's discipline, a scholar's notebook, and the conviction that every person deserves to be treated as though the gods are listening through them.
