Appearance
Shaseth is a tall, lean high elf with tanned skin, silver-blonde hair worn loose to his shoulders, and clear blue eyes that seem to measure every room before he enters it. He wears open-faced robes over a finely woven silken shirt and matching trousers, with laced knee-high boots suited for long walks through libraries, ruins, and city streets. His elder-wood arcane focus is a slender rod capped with a polished green crystal. He carries himself with quiet confidence, taking up more space than his slender frame suggests, as if centuries of study have made the air around him attentive.
Mannerisms
Before speaking, Shaseth pauses and draws a soft breath through his nose, as though arranging the sentence in his mind. He often turns his green-crystal rod between two fingers while thinking. When irritated, he becomes very still and lowers his voice rather than raising it. In conversation, he occasionally looks past a person toward an imagined line of text, then returns with an answer that is precise but several seconds late.
Personality
Patient, observant, and quietly warm, Shaseth treats every conversation as a form of research. He is generous with practical knowledge and surprisingly protective of inexperienced adventurers, though he disguises concern beneath dry corrections. He has a mischievous streak that appears whenever a pompous authority makes an overly absolute claim.
Ideals
Knowledge is a lantern, not a chain. Learning should make people freer to choose goodness, not give the learned another excuse to rule everyone else.
Bonds
The great elven library where he first learned to read is threatened by political division and the slow decay of its oldest wards. Shaseth has sworn that no tyrant, collector, or careless archmage will decide which knowledge deserves to survive. He also keeps the final unfinished theorem of his former mentor, a brilliant scholar who vanished while researching a spell capable of safely dismantling ancient magical weapons.
Flaws
He assumes that anyone who has not read the relevant history is probably about to repeat it. Shaseth can also become recklessly interventionist when he sees knowledge suppressed, even when patience would protect more people. He is slow to admit ignorance, particularly in front of younger elves who may live another eight centuries.
Quirks
Background
Shaseth was born in an elven city whose oldest libraries were built beneath the roots of living goldenwood trees. His long life began with quiet study, first copying damaged histories and later reconstructing fragments of magical theory that younger scholars had mistaken for nonsense. He became fascinated by the relationship between language and spellcraft, especially the way a single altered vowel could turn a ward from protective to destructive. His work earned him a place among the city's archmages, though he never entirely accepted their preference for caution, ceremony, and waiting until danger had passed before acting against it.
