Appearance
Malice is a lean, athletic drow woman with obsidian-gray skin, white hair cut to her jaw, and vivid crimson eyes. Her left ear is pierced with three tiny iron spiders. She wears studded leather beneath layered crimson, violet, and saffron robes, cut short enough for movement and reinforced with hidden pockets. A lacquered half-mask rests at her belt, painted with a stylized black widow. Her curved scimitar is decorated with spider-silk cord, while a shortsword and two handaxes remain concealed beneath her robes.
Mannerisms
Malice pauses before answering difficult questions, as though listening to a spider hidden somewhere nearby. She cleans her blades after every conversation, even if they were never drawn, and addresses important enemies by their full names before attacking.
Personality
Malice is controlled, observant, and unsettlingly courteous. She studies every room for exits, witnesses, and useful weaknesses. She enjoys elaborate etiquette because it makes cruelty feel ceremonial, and she treats combat as a performance in which the opponent has already agreed to lose by accepting her invitation.
Ideals
Devotion. Lolth does not reward the kind or the fair. She rewards the one who proves willing to become the sharpest fang in the web.
Bonds
She still carries a burned fragment of House Travra's genealogical record, and intends to erase the house completely by killing the priestess who replaced her.
Flaws
She cannot resist turning a victory into a lesson, even when silence or mercy would be wiser. She also mistakes fear for devotion and becomes vindictive when anyone refuses to acknowledge her superiority.
Quirks
Background
Malice was born Aurelia Travra, the second daughter of a minor but ambitious drow house. From childhood, she was trained for the priesthood, taught to read the movements of spiders, recite sacrificial litanies, and smile while lesser creatures begged. She was expected to become a useful priestess, a marriage piece, or both. During a midnight rite in the House Travra chapel, a pale spider descended from the temple ceiling and bit her palm before the altar. The venom did not kill her. Instead, every candle went black, and a voice whispered that prayer was too small a weapon for what Lolth required. By dawn, Aurelia had slaughtered the ceremonial guardians, burned her family records, and walked out wearing the robes meant for her elevation. She abandoned her birth name and became Malice, believing a name should describe the wound it leaves behind. In the years since, she has studied surface-world accounts of samurai and transformed their discipline into the Path of the Black Widow. To Malice, honor is not fairness. It is control, patience, theatrical cruelty, and absolute devotion to the hand that holds the web. She now travels as Lolth's blade, seeking rivals to humiliate, betray, poison, and finally offer to the Spider Queen.
“She was expected to become a useful priestess, a marriage piece, or both.”
