Appearance
Astrix is a sturdy human man with weathered bronze skin, close-cropped dark brown hair, and a narrow scar running from his left eyebrow to his cheek. His gray eyes are alert and analytical. He wears well-maintained chain mail beneath a faded blue surcoat, carries a greatsword across his back, and keeps a scholar's satchel filled with parchment, charcoal, and copied fragments of old texts.
Mannerisms
He taps the pommel of his greatsword whenever he is thinking, pauses before answering questions as if consulting an invisible index, and automatically straightens crooked books, maps, and tableware.
Personality
Astrix is precise, observant, and quietly intense. He prefers careful preparation to bravado, but once danger begins he becomes decisive and aggressively protective of his allies. He enjoys correcting inaccurate statements, though he is learning that being correct is not always the same as being helpful.
Ideals
Truth. Facts must survive the ambitions of kings, generals, and priests. Knowledge belongs to those willing to protect it and use it responsibly.
Bonds
The charred history book and broken seal recovered from the vanished fortress are his most precious possessions. He has sworn to uncover the truth and preserve the names of the companions who died there.
Flaws
Astrix treats uncertainty as a personal failure and can become reckless when confronted with an unanswered question. He is slow to forgive anyone who destroys records, hides evidence, or dismisses the dead as irrelevant.
Quirks
Background
Astrix was born in a riverside town where the local archive stood between the barracks and the market square. As a boy, he spent more time copying damaged histories than playing in the streets. His talent for recognizing patterns in old campaigns and border disputes eventually brought him to the attention of a retired officer, who taught him that history was not merely a record of battles, but a weapon wielded by those who understood it. Astrix learned the soldier's discipline alongside the scholar's patience, becoming equally comfortable with a blade and a brittle parchment roll. He joined a frontier militia after discovering references to a vanished fortress in several unrelated chronicles. The fortress had supposedly guarded a pass before disappearing from every official map. During an expedition to locate it, Astrix's companions were betrayed by a noble patron who wanted the site's relics destroyed. Astrix survived by fighting his way through the ruins, recovering only a charred book and a fragment of the fortress seal. Now he travels as a practical adventurer, seeking the truth behind the fortress's disappearance and gathering evidence against the people who erased it from history. He believes every mystery has an answer, and that every answer can change who deserves power.
“As a boy, he spent more time copying damaged histories than playing in the streets.”
