Appearance
Seshat-of-the-Reed is a lean male tabaxi with sand-gold fur, dark brown rosettes, and a long tail marked by a black tip. His amber eyes remain steady even when his body is in motion. He stands with one foot slightly behind the other and rests most of his weight on the balls of his feet, as though every pause is the beginning of a step. A small bronze bell hangs from a cord at his neck, its surface worn smooth where his claws touch it during thought. He wears simple russet and cream monastic clothing, a travel-worn sash, and a pair of padded bracers.
Mannerisms
When waiting, he balances on the balls of his feet and keeps his tail perfectly still. He touches the worn spot on his bronze bell whenever someone gives an evasive answer. Before entering a room, he quietly counts the visible exits.
Personality
Quietly observant and unfailingly courteous, Seshat asks precise questions and remembers nearly every answer. He is patient with frightened people, skeptical of grand speeches, and unexpectedly playful when a puzzle or difficult lock presents itself.
Ideals
Truth is a form of shelter. Knowledge should protect the vulnerable, not become a possession of the powerful.
Bonds
He carries a bronze bell from the monastery library, where a fire destroyed many irreplaceable records. He has sworn to recover lost histories and return them to the people whose ancestors were erased from them.
Flaws
When confronted with an incomplete account, he is tempted to correct it even when doing so is tactically foolish. He also mistakes restraint for moral superiority more often than he admits.
Quirks
Background
Seshat-of-the-Reed was born among a river-roaming tabaxi family whose stories were carried from settlement to settlement by traders, pilgrims, and ferrymen. He became fascinated by the pauses between those stories, the moments when a speaker chose silence rather than a lie. That curiosity led him to a quiet monastery where the elders taught that discipline was not the denial of curiosity, but the art of giving curiosity a direction. Seshat learned to read old inscriptions, copy fragile manuscripts, and listen to the movement of air through a room before he ever learned to strike.
